Hello all...long time lurker...hardly ever post.

A few years ago, I saw someone post a brilliant story about how they drove to Athens, posed as a painting company, and painted the famous Arch at UGA old gold.

Do any of you remember this, know who the poster was, or have pictures stored of this awesome prank?

I'm in the middle of a "discussion" with a UGA fan that says it "never happened". I know what I saw with my own two eyes ( unless it was a photoshop and I got punk'd) .

Anyway...any leads would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I've always thought this was one of those tall tales that people repeated because it sounded so cool.

I have the actual newspaper article clipping. I'll post it later.

It looked something like this.

It could have been a sign of appreciation from McDonald's since so many of UGA's fabulous graduates work for that amazing corporation.

This was even funnier (from article above):

Just before Georgia's home game against Louisiana State University, someone drove onto the field at Sanford Stadium and embroidered the turf with two doughnut-shaped rings, 20 to 25 feet across. Workers resodded two-inch deep ruts left by the skidding auto's wheels.

"It was either spray painted or brushed." What other choices were there? Dipping it?

It was someone on here -- their avatar is a recreation of the scene.

Weekend of graduation would be a fine time for this, all of the Nadlickers and Parents wanting a photo there.

I wonder if someone can pull it off again, say the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

I'll settle for Vad going to Athens and bringing back some hedges!!

Prank? Didn't he get an official work order to paint it?

I heard a story back in the early 80's that the Tech Band was not allowed to do their walk through on Saturday morning at Sanford Stadium before the COFH game because a few years earlier they each had a handfull of rye grass, made a GT symbol as part of the show and dropped it in place. Later in the winter there was beautiful stand of rye grass in the form of the GT symbol right in the center of the field.

I also heard that the UGA band tried to retaliate by doing the same on Grant Field the next year. They didn't realize that Rye Grass won't grow on Astroturf.
