B1G commish states that the playoff should only have 4 conference champs. While this isn't official word from on high, it's still out in the public now.

That sound you hear is some ND folks collectively freaking out.
Also the ACC, Big East, BYU, the MAC and CUSA.
Only 4 conference champs would mean Big 10, PAC 12, SEC and Big12/ACC
EDIT: Actually I misread the OP. Delany is more firing shots against both ND and Bama, just saying that team should have to win their conference in order to make the playoffs.
Delany wants them to take the top 4 conference champions and ignore at-larges so if the ACC or Big East was among the top 4 champions, even if ranked say 7th, they would make the playoffs.

Delany wants them to take the top 4 conference champions or at larges (as long as they win their conference division)

I'd rather have a ND exception than another year of a single conference playing for "the national championship"
As for ND... They have played some decent schedules in the past with games from the ACC, BiG and Pac 12. I don't care for ND at all but if they played a good schedule and were undefeated, I wouldn't have a problem with them going...
But their schedule is too hard. They will never go undefeated again playing a schedule like this:
Navy Midshipmen
Purdue Boilermakers
#12 at Michigan State Spartans
#10 Michigan Wolverines
Miami (FL) Hurricanes
#15 Stanford Cardinal
BYU Cougars
#5 at Oklahoma Sooners
Pittsburgh Panthers
at Boston College Eagles
Wake Forest Demon Deacons
#1 at USC Trojans
They play at the $1, #5, and #12 teams and play the #10 and #15 teams at home. On top of that, even their "easy" games aren't that easy. No directional schools and no non-BCS schools (other than BYU and Navy) and both are BCS quality.
What he's actually saying is that if you didn't win your conference, you should be out of the final 4.
That's good for us, because it means we won't see 2 or 3 of the 4 spots going to the SEC.
That's what this fight is about. It's about whether the SEC gets to send multiple schools. It's not an attack on ND, it's an attack on Slive. And Slive is going to fight tooth and nail to try and keep it open for 2 or more SEC teams to fill the 4 slots.
I see your point. I should have said if they were undefeated or with as good a record as the conference champs with this schedule, they should have a shot at getting in. Again, I give them credit for taking on schedules like this more than I take away from them not being in a conference...
