What? Did you watch the game? Both defenses dominated both offenses. Total yardage was 326 for them and 288 for us. 75 of their yards came in the last 30 seconds of regulation and OT. So we had held them to 250 total yards before that defensive debacle.

That was a fairly even game played at their house where they obviously benefited from having the off-season to scheme stunts to confuse option reads (by far Foster's best performance against CPJ).
I was there.

What would have the score been if there was no missed goal and no blocked punt? Two mostly random events.

VT domination.

Everyone focuses on the last defensive debacle, but to get that lead, we converted on a long 4th down. Everyone forgets that we were very close to not even being in that situation. And that we owed it to a missed FG and blocked punt.

Anyway, on with the rankings:
#25 is Fresno State

— Who is No. 24? This program has won 10 or more games eight times in its history. Only twice has it failed to win at least nine games during the season after posting double-digit wins.

Even though the numbers are off by one, I think #24 is Kansas State.

That's what kills me. They come up with a brilliant plan to slow down one of the hardest offenses to stop but they run this simple simon offense and we can't stop 'em in critical situations.

If they dominated us, then a blocked punt and a missed FG wouldn't have mattered that much. Things had to go right for them as well to win, such as the long pass to set up the thing field goal.

We did fine against them in that game. The issue was that we thought VT was better than they really were last year and so we thought too highly of our team.

#22 is Northwestern

— Who is No. 21? This program's first coach also owns the fifth-highest winning percentage in program history, counting interim coaches.

Nebraska?

Cyp, you're slacking on your duties here.

#21 was NIU & #20 is OK State.

- Who is No. 19? This program is 3-8 since the start of the 2010 season when allowing 35 or more points.

It's USC (Trojans)

#16 is indeed Louisville
#15 Oklahoma

— Who is No. 14? This team's director of strength and conditioning got his start at an FBS school that plays three automatic-qualifying opponents during non-conference play in 2013.

edit: email from czar (serving a ban):
I think 14 might be florida, who's S&C coach started at ULouisiana-Monroe who play wake forrest, baylor and oklahoma in 2013.

#14 was indeed UF.

#13: Notre Dame
#12: Texas

— Who is No. 11? This program's first win came on Thanksgiving. (Not last Thanksgiving.)
Nebraska

That means he has Boise State in his top 10.

Of course he does. Boise State is that self-fulfilling prophecy that we can all dependably put in our top 10 for an extra sprinkle of legitimacy. They lose 1 game a season, beat 1 legit opponent per season and collect enough 'style points' to ccccccccombo break the rankings somewhere between #10 and #5 on pure speculation, never to be truly proven or refuted.

It's a good gig if you can get it.
