And the one pistol speed option play went for 13 yards!

And we have to be the ONLY ****ING TEAM in the history of the world to run a hurry-up from UNDER ****ING CENTER!

Yeah, there were penalties and mistakes galore tonight, but CPJ lost this game by being stubborn and unimaginative.

The formation does not matter.

The execution does, and CPJ's lack of speed getting stuff in hurt us tonight. We have an O line coach that does not teach, as strange as it may seem, our O Line to block. He coaches them on how to hit the dirt and roll at someone or Heaven knows what.

You really think because the "Diamond" had some impact at pansy Duke that it would make a difference against a real team? Maybe it would, but it appears CPJ does not have the confidence in our players to run it. He wants more out of his precious option.

When you have a QB who is struggling to make reads under center because the defense is firing guys across the line of scrimmage....Yes, I absolutely think it could have made a difference and helped Vad with his meshes and vision.

Why, in the 6th year of this O line blocking technique, are half way decent teams able to "fire across the line of scrimmage"?

It may have made a difference, but not because it worked on duke. And I think it may be a sign that CPJ thinks our QBs can not handle it. Also, coach's ego will demand his base O work or we all go down with the ship.

Lot of games left however, but if history is any .... well you know.

Agreed on coach's ego tonight, and yes of course you're right about the O-line. My point is just that, given the play of the O-line, it would have helped a struggling sophomore QB.

If we are going down with the ship on this Coachs ego then we are on the Titanic. Last drive why was the shot gun not utililzed every play except the make one yard play. I don't get it. Vad has been at Tech for 2 years and starting now in his 3rd year. Should be able to be effective from shot gun for TECH but FFS why not try it?

If formation didn't matter then no coach would ever vary formation.

Hell even from the wishbone. They was giving us the öööö slant all day. Not one corner played tight and if was he was run support. All he wanted to do was run run run deep ball. Yeah alot of penaltys and bad reads. But under 100 yards rushing at end of 3rd. You gotta do something to force them out of the box. Our defense was spot on after 1st quarter.

Last drive really irked me too. Nobody runs the 2 min offense from under center. All that wasted whirly-around drop back motion just gave VT more time to get to the QB. What was CPJ thinking?

Not defending his overall game plan. But as horrible as were at pass protection from under center we seemed to be much worse in the Pistol, at least from where I was sitting. I think we attempted a screen pass early to alleviate it, but it was never attempted again and as like others have observed he refused to call a slant, send the receivers down the seams and drag an a-back across the middle etc.

I do recall CPJ stating in the paper last week that we weren't running ANYTHING well. Could it be that he cut back on some plays because he already saw some of our problems. Obviously, a defense like Va Tech will exploit us when we can't run anything well.

He was saying that vipsu's D was giving us the middle the whole night. By middle, I don't mean run a fly route down the middle and pray that the receiver can adjust to Vad's ööööty throw. The routes he's talking about are slants, posts, and crossing routes over the middle. They were giving us those routes up the whole time and cPJ never exploited it.

The Diamond and more pistol would have helped by denying their D line the ability to jump the snap on almost every play. Even in the formation, from under center, where we had the a back go in motion then stop at the b back, I don't recall their Dline jumping the snap or doing it effectively.
