Volume 1 explored our lack of irrational fanatacism as it relates to our hatred of UGA

Volume 2 explored our lack of true love for Georgia Tech and using the football team as a united face of the school, also touched on lack of fun traditions.

Volume 3 will explore the stingy nature of our fanbase (myself included).

It has been said that GT produces the most millionaires of any public university (perhaps any university). This is good and bad, because a lot of people don't become millionaires by starting their own company, hitting it big in the lottery, investing, or writing their memoirs. Most do it by saving a decent salary over a long period of time. When one saves a lot of their money, they are acting responsibly and cannot be condemned for that choice, when these same people then complain about a product they enjoy but do not pay for, invest much money in, or actively undermine by purchasing second hand tickets...this can be a problem...

We have money that can be spared towards the GTAA and football program in general. We're just too öööö smart and responsible to give it to them. Think of other universities and school's that are flush with cash, they aren't exactly teeming with smart people. Now think of the universities that are flush with cash...they do have smart people in and around them.

I think the GT fanbase needs to do a better job at amassing small donations from its alumni that go directly to the football or athletics programs. These are things that are good for the university in many ways and require money to operate. With such a scattered alumni network, it's hard for many to get to games, but it should not be hard to get a mailed invitation to join something like IPTAY, the Hokie Club (maybe we already have this...I dunno) for our Athletic Association, that asks for small donations to help the programs.

We also have a lot of people who not only demand more success in order to get them to pay, but also a more interesting schedule. In my opinion in the BCS and era where wins count much more for your resume than losses, GT is a current schedule curse (unless you're BYU). There's too much risk in scheduling GT due to the complexity of our offensive scheme and lack of notoriety in terms of national appeal. A loss to GT is not a "good loss," and a win is not worth the risk of the loss.

In any event, we need to get more money to have more success, and one of the best places to get that is from our own pockets.

Yeah.....a million bucks might net you 1 or 2 5 stars

I recommend fans buying tickets through the GTAA whenever possible. If you're going to a couple games a year, and you know it. Get the tickets through the GTAA not stubhub or the street corner.

For a couple years after I moved home, I purchased season tickets and sold the games I did not attend, sometimes as package deals if the games were bad. I usually made out OK, one time even. It got to be too much of a risk for me to continue doing that though as it was becoming increasingly clear, that traveling to GT Football games was not high on my family's priority list (I admit to likely being a stingy slowly made millionaire in the future).

I don't pretend to know everyone's financial situation, but I do have the sneaking suspiscion that we could do better as a fanbase.

364 words. And that's a volume?

Your making the real value of a million bucks today look pretty good versus what makes up a "volume" today.

As far as finances go, it just gets under my skin to lay out a significant amount of money for poorly played/coached football. I have plenty of discretionary spending to cover games, its just not sensible to spend money to continue poor coaching. The only way to communicate dissatisfaction is with my wallet.

In 2008, I forked over $$ to get a downtown hotel, nice dinner, then sweet tickets to the UGA game, the one we were supposed to win. That was a lot of wasted money to just get pissed off at CPJ.

This year, the Mrs and myself flew out to Utah for the game. Talk about feeling like you wasted some money, only good thing was the mountain views from the stadium. I don't mind our team losing a game, but we're starting to consistently leave some turds on the field lately.

All that said, I'm looking at season tix for next year simply because I love ma Tech to my core. Just getting harder to stand the smell of wasted money.

Yes, when you can pretty easily predict how every game is going to go, it does get monotonous looking at the views.

The fans, by and large, have money. It is time to start showing and support the GTAA by purchasing from them.

You're a liar.

We won in 2008.

This is pretty much where I'm at right now. When we play anyone with a pulse, we're almost guaranteed to lose and look really bad doing it.

I buy regular season tickets from the GTAA but I will never buy another bowl or postseason ticket from them. Been screwed over on that no matter how many points I had.

I'm with GTCrew4b on the small donations. It is true that a lot of Tech grads could not give a flip about sports, but there are a lot that do, and a lot that do not currently provide money in any way because they are distant. You're not going to buy season tickets if you live in Nebraska. We need some club/organization with modest perks, but without some stupid name like IPTAY. (The Swarm for adults? :hsugh:)

This is where I'm at, except I blame the Hill as much if not more than the coaching (i.e., I don't think we should be firing CPJ). I'll always pull for GT and barring a few more MTSU performances I'll always buy season tickets just out of loyalty, but I'm not contributing anything above that to an organization that doesn't give a öööö about athletics and doesn't know öööö about marketing its athletic brand.

When GT demonstrates the willingness to play by the same rules as its competition and stop handicapping itself, I'll donate more money.
