The winner of the coastal always seems to have two, usually three, ACC losses.

We even ahead of Duke officially, because we are 2-1 and they are 1-1.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/conferences/standings/_/id/1/acc-conference

We have two of the hardest games behind us while Duke already lost one of those games and still has another one left. Then because Duke's losses are from the Coastal, they could do worse in three-way tiebreakers.

One scenario is UVA losing to us and FSU, us losing to Clemson and Duke and Duke losing to UVA and Miami. Duke would have worst Coastal record and then we would get the tiebreaker against UVA.

Don't you mean Japan?
Don't stop him, he's on a roll.

You are right it could happen that way but I really am not sure after today that we are good enough or lucky enough for that to happen. But we were lucky in some earlier games but had pretty much zero luck on close plays/calls in this game

It really was a bit painful to watch and after the JT red zone INT I just felt it was not gonna work out for us today

Sure would be nice to have gotten some turnovers go our way but it's hard to win when you give away 3 and don't get any yourself

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure either. My general point was just that rumors of our Coastal death have been greatly exaggerated.

Maybe JT's ankle really was some factor on the INT's. The thing is, I really don't think we were particularly lucky in the VT or UM games. Maybe a bit on the lucky side against UM with UM throwing those INT's. And we looked really, really unlucky against Duke.

While it is certainly possible for Duke to win the Coastal thanks to a veteran team with probably the unique solution to the easiest schedule, it is naive to think they will continue to play like they did today. They had as favorable conditions as possible and, received a lot of good breaks, and, like us today, will be on the other end of that at least once more. It will be a roller coaster of öööö, as per usual.

I've convinced myself that Duke will lose to at least one team, maybe more. They aren't THAT good.

The game was more of a must-win for Duke. Our young team got rattled in what could've been a victory to put a vice grip on the front running seat. As it is we're still in good position, we just need to play clean.

Just win the next 3 to get to 5-1 in tha division.

Riiiight.

Duke is not gonna do any better than 5-3 in conference even WITH their bullshit schedule. They're an average team. Hell, it wouldn't shock me if they end up 3-5 or 4-4. They had a LOT of luck to win the Coastal last year and a LOT of luck to beat us today.

IMO we are still in the drivers seat, even if we lose to Clemson (which looks better now w/ Watson hurt).
We will lose 2 more ACC games because our offense has higher turnover variability than most and our defense bends. Simple die rolling will give us 2 more losses through our schedule.

I don't give a crap about the coastal! Beating ugag is all I care about now! Obviously that won't happen with our run defense! Now I'm just waiting for the "Wheel OF Destiny" from espnsuck!:furious:

We had a chance to lock down the Coastal yesterday and blew it. To Duke.

That's really what's bothering me so bad...the way our guys played. EVERYONE played like dogshit except for Byerly. Our QB, kicker, secondary, and B-backs.

The refs spent their time in Atlanta on their knees, blowing the game.

Who gives a **** about Duke and the Coastal. This season needs only one more victory to be successful.

no it wasn't. you don't know dick.
I'd call 9 wins of any sort a successful season. We can still achieve that with four of the next seven. (including a bowl)

I'd call 1-11 with a win over UGA a successful season. We can still conceivably beat UGA, although it will probably take an injury to Gurley's replacement to give us a legitimate shot.

But I don't think it's realistic to win every single remaining ACC game. The only team that's ever run the ACC table after an early loss in my memory, which goes back to the 90s, is 2009. And this team is not 2009 level. That should be obvious to anyone watching the games.

This team on the whole is a lot closer in talent to the 2012 team than the 2009 team. While the 2012 team did back in to the ACCCG at 5-3, it was only by a vast array of extenuating circumstances that we won't have this year, given who our current loss is to.

It is more healthy for you, physically and mentally, to set reasonable expectations and then be pleasantly surprised if we exceed them, than to think this team has a prayer of running the table. We would need RG3 at QB, or a personnel upgrade at 6 different positions on defense, to make that a realistic possibility.

Do you think Duke will beat UVA coming off a bye? I for one think UVA is a terrible matchup for Duke. They are big strong and bring a ton of pressure. Dukes wideouts are not impressing this year. I think UVA may blow them out. That already gets us ahead of Duke again. So long as we beat UNC on the road.
