I think he sits the remainder of the year.

Funeral service for the remainder of the UGA season will commence Sunday evening at 5:30 at Lord & Stephens in funeral home in Athens Ga.

In Lieu of flowers Mark Richt is requesting a QB who can throw the ball downfield.

They are just posting öööö to make themselves feel better. That board is awful to read during the good times and awesome to read in the bad. Delusional fans at best over there.

I like how that Peter Buck font has everyone thinking he knows something.

By the way, AJC's article that everyone cited about Gurley's possible punishments has a critical factual error. It says:

NCAA Bylaw 12.1.2.1.6 sets specific guidelines for such penalties:
1. Value of the benefit ranges from greater than $100 to $400 = withholding of 10 percent (of games) and repayment;
2. Value of the benefit ranges from greater than $400 to $700 = withholding of 20 percent (of games) and repayment;
3. Value of benefit ranges greater than $700 = withholding of 30 percent (of games) and repayment.
However, you can download the NCAA bylaws, which I did, and bylaw 12.1.2.1.6 says nothing of the sort. In fact I searched the document and nothing like that is in the bylaws. So what the hell is their source on that? If someone told the journalists those were the possible punishments, they should say "According to our source X..." instead of "According to NCAA Bylaw 12.1.2.1.6". Wretched journalism.

You should work for the AJC.

Still don't see anything about the possible punishments there, though.

All I see is that it's marked as a restitution violation, [R]. At the beginning of the document it explains restitution violation: if the violation involves benefits worth less than $100 (e.g., aquarium tickets), and they are repaid and the violation is reported, the athlete can maintain eligibility. Nothing is said about what happens if the benefit is >$100, like in the AJC article.

Withholding of 10% etc is the punishment.

If uga acted on this as soon as they found out about it, then maybe that's the only punishment. Dunno...

The NCAA is already in a legal mess about profiting on likeness so I see no way in which they rule on this harshly. If a paper trail isn't provided to them, I doubt they take the time to investigate. They take UGA at their word for $400, thank them for their trouble, and give Gurley time served.

Does it say that in the bylaws? My point is just that the AJC article claims the bylaws "spell out" the punishments, but they don't. There is nothing in there about those punishments. It is bad journalism.

I was trying to figure out by digging into the bylaws if UGA would have to vacate games played after Gurley accepted benefits. To me it seems like he would be ineligible as soon as he accepted improper benefits, but maybe he is only ineligible when the NCAA declares him ineligible? I'm confused on this.

How do you figure? They gave it to a crab leg stealing rapist last year. Who also, apparently, signed a bunch of shirts for money.
They won without him and handily, and he dropped well down in the Heisman perception for being suspended during the season. He's also not a quarterback. Also Famous stole his crabs after he won the Heisman.
