My dad and I were both screaming at Smelter to go out of bounds after he got the first down because we knew D would give up a TD.

I felt the same way....but what do you do? He had 75 yards of green grass and took it. Have to make a stop. That would have been the time to get öööööööy on D early. Who gives a flip if they score quick. We either wanted a stop or the ball with time left.....neither happened.

The scheme we are running this year is Roof's attempt to cover up our glaring lack of personnel up front; but there is only so much shine-ola you can put on this ****.

You mean you can't make chicken salad outta ........

Yes, and this will go on indefinitely. Just swap positions around. This is what happens when you never sign enough players and can only accept about 40% of the guys who want to play for you.

They had three timeouts, so stopping at the 1 would have been pointless

I think our recruiting balance is wrong. PJ tries to balance the numbers but what he should be doing is taking more chances on defensive players, especially DL. Do we need all these ABs? It's a fair criticism

He's run this show everywhere he's been. When you've got the talent at every level of the D, it'll help you win.

I think people mis-remember the Tenuta years and think we had crazy NFL talent all over the place. We had more than we have now, but his scheme allows for 2*talent to shine.

Roof leaves his 2*'s on islands. It's dumb.

Groh was also DC for the Kansas game, although it was only his second game or so. Both of the worst losses by far happened under Groh.

I hope he's well for his own sake, but won't impact the season.
I also hope he's ok, but I don't see why you think it doesn't impact our season.

Who has shown the ability at B-back to make other teams respect the dive, etc?

Umm...did you watch tonight's game? Why do you think we passed for 200 and our A-backs went wild? It's cause UNC respected the hell out of Laskey and didn't want him to get going.

Hard to tell how much is scheme and how much was how the 2*'s developed. A number of players were 2*'s and then went on to play in the NFL in some form.

I also think ANY team with our defensive attrition would have some issues at least.

Days can be effective for us; but I hope we get Laskey back in a couple of weeks. I suspect he'll be out next week at least. Leggett may get his chance to finish out the season.

Maybe you misunderstood what I wrote since I agree with you 100%. I was questioning the suggestion that we wouldn't miss Laskey.

And I do hope he's ok.

The defense looked poor tonight, no doubt about it. Offense looked pretty good, both running and passing. Exceptions being false start on 4 & 1, and the 3 and out in the 3rd quarter. I'm disappointed at this lose, but there are other fish to fry.

At least that's what I'm telling myself tonight, since I've been drinking. Please God, please let this defense be average or better for the rest of the season. Go Jackets!!

Wait! You are drinking as well?
