Hotels in Charlotte

Any recommendations other than downtown? Airport hotels? Gastonia? Rock Hill?

Staying at Courtyard in Gastonia.....$90 / night for 2 Queen beds....

Anything with University is a 15 minute drive into Uptown. Ballantyne would be 20-25 minutes, Rock Hill maybe 20.

Friday night, I recommend all Tech fans park your car for $10 in uptown & hang around the EpiCentre. The bands will do a big Pep Rally there. Tons of restaurants & bars right there. Good place to meet up with ACC fans, take pictures with mascots for the kids, etc. Short walk to the Marriott, which is the GT team hotel.

The uptown Radison is central to the happenings. Don't stay in the Crown Plaza. They updated the lobby, but the rooms were worn a few years ago.

Gastonia is not a creepy town. Stayed there plenty of times.

Booked the Courtyard.

Gastonia itself is not overly pleasant.
The hotel clusters along I-85 are fine for a football weekend.

Rock Hill is decent. You at the hotel with the hooters and liquor store in the parking lot?

In all seriousness, the hotels at the carowinds exit and arrowood exit on I-77 are ok, but petty smash and grab crime is common. Carolina Place mall has a few hotels tucked away and it's not far from the southern most stop for the light rail.

Never had a problem staying at a Courtyard.
