Well, we have 3 weeks to reflect on this awesome and pleasantly surprising season, so what is your best play/game of the season so far?

Obviously, the UGA game is the first that comes to mind, but I'm more thinking of under the radar plays/games that affected this season.

Mine- I think the Georgia Southern win was a huge one, especially with how it was won. Helped pull out close victories down the road such as Miami, VT, UGA, etc and also learned to not take the pedal off the gas. If GT loses that one who knows how this season ends up. It reminded me a lot of the Miami game a couple years ago, and we all know how the team reacted in the following weeks after blowing that game.

As for play- my choice is the Thomas-Smelter 4th and 15 play against VT.

I would say DJ White's chase down of James Conner to cause the fumble right before he scores to tie the game early vs. Pitt.

DJ White 4th quarter interception vs VT is the biggest/best play outside the UGA game, off the top of my head.

Some that come to mind:

Both of the pick sixes against Clemson were pretty great. Golden's for reading the play, Milton's on an impressive run-back.

White's chase down strip on Connor, White's VPI pick, White's OT interception

Butker 53 yarder

I feel like if Snoddy housed that one run against Clemson is would be up there (but he got tackled at like the 15 if I recall)

Zenon had a nice run and dive into the endzone against Tulane

That one JT to Perkins pass (earlier in the season, don't remember the game, think it went for 79 yards)

JT to Hill against GaSouthern

Smelter catch and run in our opener (granted it was against an FCS defense)

Waller catch and run against FSU

I'm sure I'm forgetting some, but overall I feel like there were less offensive highlights than in years past. Our offense has rarely ran more efficiently than this year, but it seemed to be more in the 10-20 yard runs than the 30+ yard td runs. I wonder if defenses were respecting the big play more than in the past. I thought for sure Thomas would get loose for a long TD run at least once this year, but it seems like they were generally able to have the angle on him down field.

Edit: If we hadn't fumbled it that interception against NC State was pretty nuts. White had a nice pick six in that game too. Days also busted a big one up the middle (although i think the OL should get a lot of that credit).

I agree with OP, the most important play outside the UGA game is the 4th and 15 completion against VT. We lose to VT once again if not for that play. Beating VT was a turning point for the program. It was what initially separated this season from the three before. No ACC Championship berth without that play. Losing to them would have been a pall over this season.

UGAG game aside....

The GSU game was great but that was an expected win and losing would have been devastating.

To me it was the 4th and 15 pass against VT. Don't convert there and there is no go ahead TD or DJ white interception. Don't convert there and there is no ACCCG, Coach of the year, extension or Orange Bowl.

Digging deeper... don't convert on 4th and 15 and several children now entering the second trimester in their mother may not exist because those celebrations that got a little crazy may not have happened.

That 4th and 15 could have possibly changed the world. NOT JUST A GT FOOTBALLS SEASON.

Rodzilla's cheering meme Smelter's catch at VT is right in there with the memorable events of this regular season.

Kick & Pick against ugag elevated my entire outlook on football.

DJ's rundown of Connor and the strip of the ball was amazing athleticism and determination not to lose.

This! With that play, we pushed vpisu over the ledge and they continue in a downward spiral as a program. From there, we have become the trendy pick nationally.

It comes down to two plays. First Georgia Southern. If we lose this game, kiss the season goodbye. The kids give up, we drop some more ACC games, and CPJ is out the door. The pitch/fumble gave us the game back. The TD was great, but never would of happened if not for Golden sticking his hand out just before the ball would have been considered forward.

Secondly, 4th and 15 vs. VT. If we lose that game, we probably lose to Miami and finish 7-5/8-4. I felt very confident that play and Thomas let the ball lose about 2 steps before Smelter even started to cut back torwards midfield. The play was so rehearsed it looked like they did it in their sleep. I could tell we had a first down before the ball left JT's hands. If it had been Lee,TW, or JN, no telling where that ball would have been.

Yup, could also say that play was the turning point in VT's season as well.

Some candidates:

- DJ White chase/strip/touchback against Pitt
- Milton chasing down Chubb (PLUS) IJ chasing down their kicker
- JT5 to Smelter 4th and 15 against VT
- Golden forced fumble against Southern late in the 4th
- Golden pick-6 against Clemson to set the tone
- Butker 53 yd FG
- DJ White INT against UGA

I could make a convincing argument for each of these. Each one was a huge turning points in losable games. All but Smelter's catch was largely just a smart individual/hustle play too. Just playmakers making plays - something we've lacked since '09.

Maybe the best play of the season that now gets overlooked because of the ending was Smelter's 75 go-ahead-TD rush on 1st and 25 with 3 minutes to go against UNC.

Golden's forced fumble of the pitch by GSU. One hell of a play. Saved our ass.

Yeah I think DJ's pick, which followed Smelter's TD catch by a few minutes in real time, which was just a minute or so after the 4th and 15.

That was the most important sequence of the season aside from the UGA game.

I was also really stoked about the 4th down TD option pitch to Deon Hill against Miami.

I would say DJ White's chase down of James Conner to cause the fumble right before he scores to tie the game early vs. Pitt.

This is not only the best play of the year, it completely changed the face and tone of our defense for the rest of the year, save a couple breakdowns vs FSU. We were a completely different defense after this one play. Most impactful play on a game and season I have ever witnessed. No question.

The theme here... Defense's will-to-win attitude. 3 chase downs from behind that easily couldve been TDs but ultimately propel our season to incredible heights. Forced fumble vs. GSU. Goal line stands at UGA, zero 2nd half TDs vs. FSU.

Not the best defensive stats, not the most athletic squad... but öööö they have heart.

Oh yeah, that was great. Had forgotten about it. I don't think I knew where the ball was until Hill was in the endzone.

Most important play of the season outside the UGAg game was Golden forcing the fumble against southern.

I was saying kick the FG and go up by 2 scores. PJ would have none of it.

Most of mine have already been mentioned. Two games with unbelievable moments in them need mention...

*The first 5 minutes of the Pitt game; 6 offensive plays, 4 turnovers, 28-0 Tech before I had cracked open my 2nd beer.

*NC State runs 26 consecutive offensive plays during an 11 minute stretch, and GT scores 14 points without the offense taking a snap.
