i think he would make a good scat-back too, maybe even an Edelman type WR. i think his elusiveness is more valued on O than D
That's a good thought. The Pats do love guys with his shiftiness. He'd need to have a great workout with perfect routes while coach Bill is watching. One thing you always find with those guys at NE is that they're always exactly where they're supposed to be, so Brady can put the ball where he knows Edelman's hands will be. So many times, Brady starts his throwing motion at the same time Edelman makes his cut, and the two connect at a point 1.5 seconds in the future.

seems like being a former QB, you know how you like the WRs to run the routes and how they should be run

i think his physical abilities arent in question and it would seem like he would know the routes; it would simply be a matter of practice

Edelman, Amendola, Wes Welker... If you overlaid multiple videos of a single play from the playbook, I bet you'd see only one guy at their positions. A lot of wideouts practice for years and never get to that kind of consistency with their routes. JT5 definitely has the tools. I think it would require spending some time with the right WR trainer.

It would probably only be a transition much like you see with the pats today where he acts as a special teams returner until his skills can be evaluated and his fit in the system worked out. It has potential to be a low risk 5-6 rounder.

Will take this route when his (glorious) playing days are over on the Flats:

Thoughts? If Nick Saban wanted him, I'm sure he's got what it takes, especially with his other-worldly athleticism.
His problem is always going to be his size. Both height and weight. I can't be the only one seeing those screen shots with Thomas disappearing in the midst of the huddle. 5-8, 5-9, tops, and maybe 165? Just don't know how much quickness, toughness and speed can make up for. By the bye we owe Nick Saban big time for cutting Thomas loose in time. He didn't have to do that and as we have seen recently -- Louisville, for instance -- some coaching slugs will nail a recruit to the wall and not think twice about it.

If CB is what he'd have to play to get a look from the NFL, I'd say yes. But I betcha JT watches Russell Wilson and thinks, "Why not me, too?" Considering how we've seen him grow in his first year as a college QB, I wouldn't bet against him. Guy's a baller.

God knows no one ever fudges the roster.

It's like... The Bible.
Yep. Take one look at him in the huddle, or in the sideline scrum after the Clemson game, and convince yourself he is 5-11. He is a special player. Just not a special 5-11, 189-pound player.

He's a college baller, no doubt, but not an NFL QB. He doesn't have the NFL arm.

Tells a lot of about the arms required to play in the big time, because Thomas has a very good one. But you see some of those NFL throws, and omigod.

JT has a strong throw, no doubt. He just has to put everything into to it at his size to really get it downfield. His > 35yard motion looks so much strained than those NFL QB's even close to his size such as Wilson, Brees, etc. It's working for us but more than likely won't in the NFL.

It works for us in the context of our offense, which doesn't often require long, precision throws. I can remember several balls that were long gains but would have been touchdowns with better throws.

If he manages to significantly improve in the passing game over the offseason, we will really be a force to be reckoned with, and I do think he will definitely make strides in it...just a question of how much.

Not meant to really be a knock on him; we look for ability to run the option first, and he does it better than anyone we've had. Finding someone who can do that AND have the arm of a future NFL QB (where they don't put nearly as much emphasis on the option as we do) is extremely rare.

Definitely think JT makes it on the next level, but as a WR with an imaginative head coach (Belichick, Harbaugh, maybe Bill O'Brien). Methinks he's a better athlete than Julian Edelman. As an athlete, he's even better than Hines Ward IMHO.

He said in a recent interview with Brandon that his target weight is 190, and that he is not too far from it...... But, for him to survive in the NFL as a slot receiver, he would need to put on more muscle mass and keep his speed...that I agree with...
