I am not ööööting you. UGAg would have beaten ND. Holy öööö folks, ND had to pull one out of their ass against Virginia. You are putting them way to high on a pedestal.

They were looking ahead to playing us. Georgia looked less than stellar in their previous games.

Correct. It's really only 10

"The Jackets never really established anything on either side of the ball in the second half, either.
A Thomas fumble on the second play of the third quarter set up a field goal, then, later, a crucial holding penalty negated a touchdown run and the 11-play, 43-yard drive would net nothing. Notre Dame proceeded to wear down the defense, appearing to put the game away with a 91-yard run on a second-and-15, following a holding penalty."

I thought the holding call on Errin Joe that wiped out JT's TD was shaky at best. Am I wrong? Was it a legit call?
It was a bullshit call. Should have been a TD.

Also, Fuller was pushing off all game, which is why Milton looked terrible. And not just slight push offs, full arm extension push-offs.

4. I think some of our players were blinded by the big stage today.
I see what you mean but I really hope this one isn't true since we came in as a top ranked team... If our guys feel that our ****'s were small yesterday, then what the hell is the point of winning the Orange Bowl and building upon last season.

They should be trained to show up everyday not giving a öööö and truly believing they are better than anything, anyone, and everyone out there:

We've got freshmen at Aback and WR, were as last year we had seniors. They weren't up to prime time. That let ND play the center differently. Tulane did the same thing, we just out athleted them on the edge. ND out athleted us this week.

On one of our stalled drives in the red zone that led to the missed short FG, the refs let go a blatant late hit out of bounds on our A-back. Had that been called, it would have been first and goal and I think we punch it in there.

The offense was pretty bad all day. I don't know if we had a game where just about every third down was third 8 or 9 last year. to have to consistently get those is hard on any offense, including ours.
Earlier last year, we looked like that against GSU and Tulane. Not all game, but there more than a few failed drives IIRC. Obviously much better to struggle like that against ND than against GSU and Tulane.

As CPJ said in the postgame presser, a big issue too is completing passes on 1st and 2nd downs. WR's had man-to-man all game, especially on 1st and 2nd downs. We would have an incomplete pass on an early down, and then we would have to pass on 3rd and long.

So now we are whining about the refs? Don't disrespect this excellent thread with that crap. Start your own thread.

Coit "it is what it is". You didn't see it that way fine but let us grind if we want to grind.

And the shifting is exactly what Duke did last year when their D made JT5 look like a first year starter.

Hopefully, the loss will help us prepare for Duke shifting between 3,4, and 5 man fronts before the snap. Maybe have a hot play with just the OL, JT5, and the BBack to snap the ball early and catch them mid shift.
until we have a passing ability to our WRs,the changing DEf lines will be a problem
we wouldn't have to do anything but block directly and let WRs go 1 on 1-but right now its a dream

My thoughts are that the offense and special teams played pretty poorly, especially the offense, which had miscues and terrible timing all day. The OL also struggled, but that was to be expected (I was expecting the ND front 4 to be good, but was really surprised by how dominant they were playing in the back 7).

I do think that GT played about the worst they could have and ND played pretty well, and it was still a one score game in the end.

I do think that GT must be able to complete a decent percentage of passes in play action, and that a couple of early connections that were just misses would have changed the complexion of the game entirely.

Frankly, as much as I love him as a player and kid, JT had a poor game. He missed in the passing game and he missed some opportunities to cut it up for 3 or 4 yards by looking for big plays in the option game.

This game kind of reminds me of the old Nebraska games from the late 80s and mid 90s. Nebraska had a perfect offense ofr the types of players they could consistently recruit, but at times, pure physical dominance trumped scheme. In this game that was amplified by the number of self inflicted wounds (miscues in handoffs, poor pitch relationship, poor route running).

Most teams lose 3 to 5 games a season. Even the really good ones. This was a good ND team. Losing to them sucks, but it's hardly the end of the world in the scheme of things. GT has one of the toughest schedules in the country, so they will have plenty of opportunities to prove themselves again.

For those calling for changes and otherwise complaining, what is your solution or strategy for improvement if you got what you wanted?

P.S., that hold on the called back TD was atrocious... as were several no-calls on late hits out of bounds.

I didn't see every single play, but my impression is probably no one this season will defend the triple option that well. Notre Dame has a lot of talent. Having said that, this game proved to me again that your own defense is ready for prime time. Roof has worked miracles with it in my opinion, and has had to work with what he inherited from a poor defense before him. Keep him at all costs.

I thought Tech would win this one but like many, I underrated ND, particularly playing at South Bend where the Archbishop presides over "further review" in the box.

As others have said, the game is early; it will cost little in the rankings and nothing in the league; and is much better preparation for league games than another FCS type team. Just avoid a letdown against Duke and the ACC is there for the taking. But are you ready for the greatest rejected Virginia quarterback in NCAA history??? :naughty:

I thought that was the kid who went to Alabama. Or was that the other way around?
