I've taken the bowl streak for granted.

just to show (once again) that RamblinFool92 seems to live in some fantasy land where Georgia Tech has always demolished all of the best teams on our schedule. Let us look at reality

here are the records of our last three coaches against the top teams (including the ones that he keeps mentioning with his made up "25%" figure) in the ACC plus Georgie; FSU, Miami, Clemson, VaTech, and Georgie. NOTE: because last year wasnt yet added to the stats, it is not included. i can go back and add a win over FSU, a loss to Clemson, Miami and Georgie later if it seems necessary

here are the results:

Note that Paul Johnson has the highest winning percentage for 3 of the 5 matchups. The key difference to me is that GO'L won so often against Georgie, but i see that much more a function of Ray Goff and Jim Donnan that of George O'Leary

also, Chan had a knack for beating Miami. Dont know if he had some Dolphins magic or more likely Miami was having some really down years

please now, Ramble92timesthesamedumbthing, now stfu already with your horrible analysis

here it is with 2015 included (it doesnt change much)
note that Paul Johnson has winning records against FSU and Clemson, the two teams that challenge for titles the most from the ACC

It's weird to see same record for Gailey and OLeary when you add them up.

Johnson 14-23 (11-21 vs "Big 4")
Gailey 7-15 (7-13 vs "Big 4")
OLeary 7-15 (7-8 vs "Big 4")

CPJ basically has slightly better record against these five. Over the next two seasons, if that record creeps to Gailey/OLeary levels, he is out the door. I think most would agree with that.

If we don't make a bowl next season, he is probably out the door. (Easier schedule)

Otherwise, I would extend him with 1-1 against uga and something like at least 2-4 against Clemson, VT and Miami. 3-3 would make the decision easier.

Did you miss adding in loss to VT in 15 (both years show same record)?

CGOL has higher pct than CPJ for Clemson now, and VT is now a tie.

This year was worse.

Curry (and Homer Rice) walked into what was essentially a 1-AA/FCS program. Curry's early years were horrible, but we were respectable in 85 and 86. Improvement.

Ross was a perfectionist, and he had to tear things down to build them back up. Ross' early years (87-88) were horrible, but 1990 speaks for itself. Improvement.

There is no reason why a coach in his 8th year should win 2 FBS games with 11 chances. This is the worst season since the '70's for that reason.

We are becoming Wake Forest.

Not becoming, have become.

Another comparison using Sagarin predictor rankings. Massey average rankings in parenthesis for some additional comparison.

Basically Johnson and Gailey records similar in terms of computer rankings. O'Leary of course better, especially over his last 4 seasons.

Johnson: average 38th in Sagarin (average 42nd in Massey)
15: 39
14: 13
13: 35
12: 38
11: 58
10: 66
09: 12
08: 46

Gailey: average 37th in Sagarin (average 37th in Massey)
07: 57
06: 36
05: 51
04: 26
03: 32
02: 51

O'Leary: average 21st in Sagarin (average 32nd in Massey)
(only last 4 years for sagarin available, but the complete 95-01 for Massey)
01: 26
00: 14
99: 22
98: 21

You got me. Your "We have always done poorly so we should accept that we'll continue to do poorly!!" is spot-on, great analysis.

bravo! :bowrofl:

GOL beat the mutts 3 in a row because his scheme and recruiting were better than CPJ's. The only coach Mark Richt owns is CPJ. Everyone else worth a crap routinely beat Richt's mutts. From below-avg UF Gators to Spurrier's mediocre Gamecock teams to awful UT squads...the only coach that loser Richt owns is CPJ. And that will continue now that he's in Miami. And you'll continue to make excuses for CPJ's shortcomings against the mutts, VPI, and Miami because you love the Triple Option offense first and GT second.

It Is What It Is...and what it is is a 75% rate of failure. Learn to Love it, I guess. It's not changing.

Yep, at this point we might as well be WF fans. If you look up the numbers, it's kind of scary how similar they are over the past several years:

WF record over past five seasons: 21-40
GT: 36-30

WF number of bowls in past five seasons: 1
GT: 4

WF last bowl win: 2008, Eaglebank bowl
GT: 2014, Orange Bowl

WF last 10 win season: 2006
GT: 2014

WF second to last 10 win season: Never
GT: 2009

In fairness, UT has the same number of wins against UGA since 2008 as CPJ does. Not that they should be what we aspire to.

Care to list any of the bad stuff GOL did?

You got it, finally.

Either accept it as fact in the face of decades of evidence that Tech is only a flash in the pan program or kill yourself.

Your choice.

the team quitting on him was enough for me.

Because I bring him up <> I want him back.

But similarly, because "OMG 2014!!!" doesn't mean CPJ is the best thing that has or will ever happen to us. 2014 was an outlier, same as 2015.
