What does CPJ have to do to keep his job?

A serious answer? Not that the OP deserves one.

Win more than he loses and graduate his players.

He will stay as long as he wants to..go 7 and 5 beat ga every few yrs and go to a no nothing bowl...he is solid with AD and young guys....

That worked so well for us the last time we tried it.
This! Plus, travwp76 might wanna read Ken Sugiura's article in this morn's ajc sports section for a dose of reality. Of course the article is waaay understated or it probably wouldn't have been published.

That would be OK with me if "every few years" = 3.

Can he molest girls? What about mansluaghter?
Yes I believe he could get away with both and not get fired.

I'm also assuming the CPJ has already slaughtered at least one man while he's been our coach.

I don't think it's necessarily a stupid question. While I do think CPJ is one of the best possible coaches in the entire country, especially for our situation, he has definitely underachieved at Tech, and I think he would agree with that. We've seen some tremendous potential in 2009 and 2014, but recruited poorly and pissed away chances many other years. He's safe in 2016 IMO, but I think the fanbase has begun to polarize to the point that another sub-500 year would put him squarely on the hot seat for 2017.

Also, I think PJ would probably quit before we fired him, especially if we can't rebound to compete for division titles within the next 2 years. He's as competitive as they come and isn't used to losing.

And Gespacho, I think that Tech can definitely afford to fire him. If you bring in a coach that runs a pro-style offense, you can recruit skill players out of Atlanta and not to mention defensive linemen who don't want to be cu-blocked in practice for 4 years. Just my $.02

Snarky Response: Remember when we had a pro-style coach who was, and continues to be highly regarded in NFL circles? His recruiting classes were about the same as CPJ's are, on average.

Non-snarky Response: I think he needs to win 6 or 7 this year, or his job is on the line the following year.

He's coached 8 seasons and has received the ACC Coach of the Year Award 2-3 times.

Coaching football at GA Tech ain't no picnic. Why would you can a guy who just won us the Orange Bowl 1.5 years ago?

Last year was an anomaly. Never seen more injuries in my entire life.

Disagree. No coach is going to quit before getting fired unless the can get some sort of buyout and a decent job lined up (see GT basketball).

Our recruiting hasn't been bad. Over the last two years we have had 5-6 guys drafted. Considering most of our Abacks will never get drafted, we are doing pretty good.

Over the last 4 years, we have played in 2 ACCCG and been to the OB once. That is better than anyone in the division. We have had a tougher path to the cg than anyone other than Miami.

Last year sucked. 2014 was great. What happens this year is a mystery. I suspect a 7 win season. Hopefully, JT5 goes out with a great season, but iiwii.

If CPJ was 70 years old, fans would want him to prove that it's not an age issue this year. If there were rumors that he was slacking off, they'd want to see a big turnaround this year. If recruiting was significantly worse this year, they'd want a coaching change. But in CPJ's case, he's the same guy that he has been for decades, and his overall resume is pretty impressive. Other than some irrational fans who want to fire the coach after each loss, most of the influential Tech people would wait a couple years before calling for him to be fired.

You're problem is your $.02. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. You certainly have one. Made it clear. You don't know what GT can or can't afford. You're just spewing venom.

Meh, recruiting has been hit or miss. I fully realize that it's been very Georgia Tech-like and pretty much the exact same as Gailey's, but that's still not great. If we want to have more seasons like 2014 and avoid seasons like 2015, we can't have recruiting classes like 2013 where we miss on so many guys and leave ourselves super thin.

CPJ is an outstanding gameday coach and anyone who disagrees can suck it. Still, we're gonna see more of the same (ups and downs with mostly mediocrity) unless we figure out a way to improve recruiting, even if just a little bit. Personally, I'm fine with that, because I think the odds of hiring someone else that can do better are extremely low, and the odds of hiring someone that would do worse are pretty high. But that's just me.

All he has to do is put a consistently winning program on the field that will consistently fill the stadium.

If he can't do that we should move on and give someone else the opportunity.
