We need to ditch Russell. Does anyone even buy Russell crap? I know I did before and vowed never to again because their stuff was crap. The Nike uniforms look way more modern and slick. Our jerseys just look too baggy on the pads and are probably easier for defenders to grab.

I agree, but it's Russell and not Riddell. Riddell makes helmets.

The Under Armour jerseys would be cool as well.

A. its Russel
B. i think the guy who created Russel, is an alumni.

so we kinda have a "thing" for them i guess.
Also, i girls dad i know works in bama for Russel and i asked her about it and we signed a new contract with them recently.

Dem said our contract is about to run out and we are looking at other options including under armour.

Under Armour would be the best route as it is extremely popular among high school athletes and that could be a huge recruiting tool.

I agree that Russell does not produce the greatest uniforms. However, I think there is a big connection between Russell and GT. I think the founder or the president of Russell is a big time donor to GT athletics and the one year in recent memory when we decided we would switch brands, he/they threatened to pull all their donations, so GT stuck with Russell. One of my Tech professors told me this.

Back in the "Dark Ages" when I coached Pee Wee & Mites, Russell Southern had the best by far product going. Matter of fact, it was the only brand that was fit for the players to wear to school after football season was over. I haven't bought any football garb in years since then, but RS had the best game in town back then.
Kind'a funny now, but back then we went to a football gear show and got one of those deals of a lifetime on some fishnet jersies. We were really gonna save a bunch of money for the booster's club. They lasted almost an entire game before falling all to pieces. LOL :)))

This is hilarious. The whole thread I've been waiting on someone to cite that Russell was an Auburn grad, which is what I've always understood to be true.

I am fairly confident that this is the case. I am more confident that there is no alumnus connection to Tech. There is some connection, but it is more of a tried and true partnership sort of thing.

Maybe DRad can do something about this, too. I have always been disappointed with Russell.

if we go to that ugly ass under armour I'll be upset. Either make the switch to Nike or don't make the switch IMO

That would be even more interesting since Auburn partners with UnderArmor I believe. If Russell couldn't hold "their own" they must be pretty bad.

Russell was sold/acquired. With that, all of the once old time connections evaporated I believe.

Russell once made terriffic stuff, if not the best. This may pre-date a lot of you.

Russell suffered by not being able to adjust to a global economy and changing styles. They got mired in the past. I've tried to be loyal to the once-great company by trying to buy all of my leisure tee shirts from them but they can't seem to be consistent with their sizing and quality of fabrics they use. They outsource their manufacturing to untold numbers of countries (not unlike just about everyone else in the textile business manufacturing business) that it seems like their QC does not exist. It's sad to me what has happened to this once-great company.

Benjamin, was "a dedicated and hard working young man" and eventually worked his way through the University of Virginia, graduating in the spring of 1899 with a law degree.

Guess nobody has heard of Cal James. Played for a school with the initials "GT"

Brother of Fob I think.

Don't care whose logo is on our unis (they should not be there anyway), as long as we wear a traditional style uni.

Screw the star wars designs with stripes coming out of the players ass.

Benjamin Russell went to UVa.

There have been a number of executives at Russell through the years who were GT alumni.

Historically, Auburn has had the closest ties with Russell going back many decades. However, GT, now that Russell is headquartered in ATL (Vinings/Cumberland Mall area), has the closest ties. Russell, was acquired last year by Warren Buffett (Berkshire Hathaway) and is now private. I would assume Russell may just give up on major college sports and go with niche sports and/or conferences. they are not going to try and compete with UnderArmour or Nike's money.

Coincidentally, they have a picture of South Carolina on their website so they must still provide unis for the Cocks at least for now.
