The fumble was Pitt screwing up. We didn't force that. That was a horribly call game.

We had the 21st ranked defense coming into this game, which includes top 10 Clemson and Miami. Roof is the only thing going for us this season.

Did you watch this game? Because they couldn't stop a cart rolling down the hill to save their lives.

I did not, but I heard about a 4th of it on the radio. It sounded to me like we didn't have any answer for the jet sweep and they made good use of it.

I still stand by my point. Roof's side of the ball seems to be executing much better tha Johnson's for the most part this season.

Hes 6 for 6 this year on letting up opening drive tds, that includes mercer and vandy. His prep work is garbage.

I like Roof a lot, hes like coach O, worth his salt, in recruiting, energy, and motivation. He just needs to be miles away from Xs and Os.

Seriously, fire Ted Roof and ask Les Miles to coach the defense for the rest of the year.

Roof has been mediocre. That's better than what we had for the rest of Johnson's tenure, so it's hard to hate him. He's also been good for recruiting.
Roof was 21 in scoring defense going into this game. He may not have done us any favors today, but he isn't the reason we lost to Clemson or Miami.

Ok, that's a valid point. But, every team we have faced has scored on their opening drive...that cannot continue the second half of the season.

Who cares if they score on their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd drive of the game? There is no difference if you are (were) averaging 14 points per game.

If Texas ends up firing Strong, we should also consider tapping him to be DC next year. He did wonders at DC for UF for many years.

jimmys and joes better than what roof coaches...we are not great, but we are better than the product roof puts out there.
Jimmys and Joes aren't all that either, in fact I think that is part of Roof's problem. You must see something I don't because I see size and speed issues on D. Guys seem to be playing hard, know their role, and the system; and that has worked for us up until today.

Seriously, if people really want to fire Coach Roof they are not paying attention to reality. For instance, Tech's defense gave up just 3 points in the entire second half against the mighty Clemson! While our offense managed to gain just 124 yards for the entire game! And in the Miami game, if the offense had not turned the ball over twice in our own territory, Tech's defense would have likely given up just 21 points instead of 35 for the game. Plus, I believe, the defense gave up just 7 points in the second half. Those two teams are in the TOP TEN!

As for today vs. Pitt, Pitt has a well balanced offense. They have been scoring over 30 points against most teams they have played. However, their defense has given up a lot points. Tech's offense today scored 27 points. Our special teams was responsible for 7 points (thanks to JJ who ran a 96 yard kick off return). Coach Roof has been able to make adjustments in about every game we have played. Even today, we were better over all in the second half than in the first half. The last, long, touchdown they scored really hurt. But we were still tied, 34-34, until Coach Johnson stupidly went for it on fourth down in our own territory and got stuffed. He probably thought well if we don't convert the fans will blame the defense, not me. Which is exactly what some on here have done. Come on people, pay attention to what's going on! This is not rocket science.

Have we had a single good defense under Paul Johnson?

I'm a huge CPJ fan and think that the TO is a great fit at Tech. However, as the head coach he is ultimately responsible for defense as well. And he has failed to deliver on that side of the ball at all.

He's allowed an opening drive touchdown in every single game. Miami was the only game we received first; however, when the O didn't score, Miami still got a TD on their first possession.

We're forced to play from behind in every single game because his schtick is pathetically simple.

Roof is able to hide because we have a ball controlling offense. We could be so much better on D than we are.

I can't believe I have to type this, but I don't want to rustle jimmies too badly. Yes, CPJ is responsible. Yes, we've always sucked on D in his tenure.

We still have a terrible DC though. I hope one the immediate things we do with the new AD is find the funds to hire a better staff across the board - offense and defense.
