Hurricane Irma has UCF football facing financial "Armageddon"

Athletics director Danny White told me after the Knights were forced to cancel today’s big non-conference game with Georgia Tech that — from his seat as somebody who is expected to raise enough money to sufficiently fund an expansive 16-team athletic program — this is akin to financial Armageddon.

“This is worst-case scenario,” White said. “We have been planning for the last eight months on these two homes games [Memphis last week and Georgia Tech this week]. We were hoping we would look good and excite our fans against FIU [a 61-17 victory] and I think we did that with our young offense really showing some major progress. We were expecting some significant single-game revenue surges for both Memphis and Georgia Tech and now we’re scrambling. This is a lot of lost revenue for us.”

Link. It's too bad- I'm sure other programs like USF and UF will be in similar straits.

And the writer threw in this gem:

And one last thing about UCF-Georgia Tech: The Yellow Jackets should be ashamed of themselves for trying to goad UCF into playing today in Atlanta when the Knights haven’t even been able to practice for most of this week because of the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Irma. This is almost as pathetic as LSU AD Joe Alleva’s stance last year when he claimed the Gators were ducking the Tigers by canceling a game as Hurricane Matthew was bearing down on our state.

Wouldn't our proposal have let UCF keep the home game when they were supposed to play in Atlanta? What a

:bigcry:

I don't think Stansbury was trying to "goad" UCF. Made them an offer to swap dates. They said no.
So screw em. We can invite them to watch us play in the ACCG in Charlotte.

Little did we know, back in August, that the UCF game (as well as the impact it would have on their bottom line) was going to be the most important thing to happen to GT football in 2017.

If the issue was practice time: We know the sun was out and shining at UCF by Monday. They could've practiced Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday before flying to Atlanta Friday to play Saturday. That's four days. We had fewer days to prepare against Jacksonville State, and Jacksonville State had two weeks to prepare for us. How was UCF's situation any worse than that?

They released their players, but they cancelled the game with Memphis on Thursday. So their players are gone Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday... Why do they need so much time? This hurricane was just power outages and limbs and some traffic. It wasn't Katrina. It wasn't Harvey.

They had *plenty* of time to practice. They elected to cancel the game because they couldn't deal with the slightest disadvantage or adversity. Real Millenial move. They are pansies. We would have played the game if the tables were turned. Paul Johnson would've said "it is what it is" and gotten to work.

Despite their chicken**** behavior, our AD publicly stated we "completely agreed" with their decision to cancel. We gave them everything they want and they're still going to whine?

Their coach screwed up. Period. All the other coaches in the state knew enough to gather up their players and go camp outside of the path of the storm. Cripes, USF's SOCCER team even had the where-with-all to come to Atlanta and post up at Atlanta United's facility to wait out the hurricane. You're telling me UCF's football team has less resources than USF's soccer team to pack up and get out of the path of the storm?

And yeah, I agree with Stansbury that under the circumstances UCF should cancel the game. The circumstances were, because their coach screwed up, they couldn't practice for two weeks. Two weeks without practice and then they'd have to play us? Tech would have hung 70 points on them and left half their d-linemen on the injury list. That's not an idle boast, either. Tech was liable to put up 40+ points on UCF even if they had practiced just because it's so difficult to prepare for the 3O if you don't play against it every year like our ACC rivals do. Without any practice? Would've been suicidal for them.

UCF women's soccer played at home yesterday and won. They play again tomorrow at home. University of Miami football moved all their practices to Disney's Wide world of sports..... IN ORLANDO. NFL teams practice at high schools all the time in training camp. Don't tell me there is no place in the area that they can't practice or play the game. It simple. They're banking on the insurance money payout. Which as the days go by, evidence mounts up at how much they've botched the whole situation. The AAC just had to fork over $1.1 Million to Ga St to cancel the game so that UCF/Memphis could happen instead. They've royally screwed the pooch.

They'll probably double the money they would've made on the game when they turn their bill in to FEMA for aiding the hurricane relief. Bunch of lying, swindling cheats!

I'm not even mad about the game but now I want them to go bankrupt and shut that shit down. ööööing whiny ass bitches that whole lot.

I believe the last time UCF paled a team from Georgia they won, and we lost to that same team.

Not saying you don't know anything about football, but you are a dip shit
