Interesting remarks from Spurrier

86-49

They oughta name the damn stadium after him.
He has the only SECCG appearance in the history of the program.

Prior to Spurrier's arrival, South Carolina had one 10 win season ever. Spurrier won 11 games THREE TIMES IN A ROW.

He beat Clemson FIVE times in a row (only coach to beat Dabo as much as CPJ). Before he did that, South Carolina had never beaten Clemson five straight in the history of their program and the last time the Gamecocks had even won consecutive games was 1970.

They should absolutely name the damn stadium after him.

Spurrier was his own enemy winning games, making them a minor powerhouse, and turning the fans into typical SEC fans.

Plenty of USC fans I know have blamed him for leaving the program in shambles when he retired. Looks like OBC agrees with 'em.

Do they blame him for giving them the best years in program history and their only East title? Unfortunately, the SEC West was just insanely deep that year, if it wasn't Auburn in '10, either Bama or LSU would have wiped the field with them as well.

To be perfectly honest they are probably a little better now than their historical average.

He was a UGA killer at South Carolina - not quite like UF but still beat them quite regularly. He clearly gave South Carolina the best run they have ever experienced. I think he is my favorite coach of all-time. Changed the game with his fast 5 receiver sets and spreading the field. Saban may be a better coach but he is not the innovator Spurrier provided to the game. Quick wit and honesty - no football head coach speak. His record is unbelievable with 5 SEC championships.

Yeah, I was thinking about this. In 2007, he certainly kept them out of the SECCG and likely the BCS Title game.

At any rate, nobody ever owned UGA like SOS. You don't öööö with them Johnson City boys.

When he passed Vince for total sec wins, it was against UgAY. Last time he played the mutts, he quit his job. Oh well.

There are few people more delusional than fans of mid tier SEC teams.

no doubt, though USC has one of the largest fanbases of Mediocrity Acceptance in all of college football. In Columbia, the tailgate is more important than the game itself. I guess when your team sucks for so many decades, it's a natural progression. Spurrier's a good example: did some nice things while there but never actually won the SEC nor sniffed a natty and yet is bronze-statue material.

No, they blame him for leaving the program looking like a dumpster fire and OBC himself clearly agrees.
He left the program looking exactly like it had for like 100 years.

I'm a Clemson fan, but I've got serious respect for what OBS did. Things went downhill at the end, but that shouldn't tarnish his legacy at all. Hell, Bobby Bowden mired FSU in mediocrity before he left, and BeamerBall had literally become a joke before Frank stepped down at VT.

I think age and time just diminish with the fire of coaching.
