Under the direction of head football strength and conditioning coach Lewis Caralla, the 10 teams will compete to earn points based on their performances in three areas of the offseason program:

  1. Competition Tuesdays – a weekly showdown that pits teams against each other in matchups of strength, speed and agility;
  2. The Hunger Board – a determination by Georgia Tech’s strength and conditioning staff if student-athletes are satisfied (happy with where he is and maintaining that level), hungry (doing what is asked of him and improving at an expected level, but no more) or starving (striving to improve every day as an individual and a team);
  3. Discipline – points are earned or deducted based on performance in areas that specifically require individual and team discipline, including academics, weight goals, locker room appearance, community service and respect.
In addition to making gains in all areas, Caralla says that another primary goal of the offseason program is team-building.

“A big part of the program is to get kids talking to teammates that they might not ever interact with otherwise by splitting into teams with players from a variety of positions and classes and having them work towards a common goal,” said Caralla, FootballScoop’s 2018 Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year.

Captains for the 10 teams were selected by a team-wide vote. The captains are: Sr. OL Parker Braun, Sr. LB David Curry, Sr. DL Brentavious Glanton, Sr. RB Nathan Cottrell, Sr. OL Jahaziel Lee, Sr. DL Brandon Adams, So. QB Tobias Oliver, Jr. DB Tariq Carpenter, So. DB Juanyeh Thomas/So. DB Tre Swilling (co-captains) and Sr. WR Jalen Camp/Jr. QB Lucas Johnson (co-captains).

“Selecting captains gives leaders a great platform to lead,” Caralla said.

The winner of the winter program will be crowned before the Yellow Jackets begin spring practice on Tuesday, March 26.

I like it.

Looks like Cottrell will be back for his fifty year. I thought there was a chance he would move on since there isn't an obvious spot he'll fit in the new offense.

I'm excited about Cottrell. I think there are many obvious opportunities, particularly slot receiver and special teams.
