Recruiting Rankings

Some people around here need to fill up the tank, let the top down, crank the stereo to 11, and drive well over the speed limit.

I’m a structured, methodical, OCD personality -like many statistician/mathematician types, but I’ve had no problem overdosing on the juice of the here and now.

This culture change is a breath of fresh air -how can anyone not be excited right now? I’m ecstatic and really don’t care if I get pulled over for speeding.

Look, I was a fan of Paul for the majority of his time here, but that's just not true. He always had a recruit or two defect on or right before signing day and generally replaced them with a kid with little to no offers. The only hat ceremony he ever won was for Miles Autry who never stepped foot on campus. If you can't see that what CGC has done recruiting-wise is well above what CPJ did, you are blind. And that's not ööööting on CPJ, its stating the facts.

We did have defections under CPJ - don't have a good list of those, but it's a fair point. Obviously that wouldn't happen this year because we already had the majority of the class signed due to the early signing period.

4* picked up the week of NSD: Graham (2018 Early NSD), Oliver (2017), Woods (2016), Alexander (2015), Autry (2014), Young (2010), Uzzi (2008). That's not even counting getting Quon Griffin last year - the whole reason Jamious was looking at us. Other notables are Carpenter, Saint-Amour, Whitehead, Gotsis, and Attaochu who were all picked up the week before NSD in their respective classes. CPJ had the same situation as CGC in 2008 when he got here and Uzzi picked us over Bama, Auburn, Clemson, and uga right before NSD.

CGC just closed with Jamious/Lockhart who are 2nd/7th highest rated recruits in the 2019 class and Naz/Evans/Deveney who are the three lowest rated recruits in the 2019 class. He should get credit for 4* Ezzard too even if he isn't officially in this class. So we'll say CGC closed with 2 top guys, 1 above average guy, and 3 of the "little to no offer" guys you are complaining about CPJ picking up late.

Look I'm hyped too. The rebranding CGC and staff are doing right now is changing the way I think about Tech recruiting. I'd put down a good amount of money right now that our 2020 class will be better than any CPJ had outside of the 2010 class - and wouldn't be at all surprised if it ended up Top 25 the way we're trending. I think we're on the same page with that. Just trying to point out that some people seem to be creaming their pants for CGC closing the 2019 class the same way CPJ generally closed his classes.

Fair enough. CGC has won me over and then some from a recruiting/hiring/atmosphere perspective. Already renewed the season tickets, pitched in some extra to the AT fund, and looking at flights for the Spring Game.

Why can't we just move on. If people would just stop dumping on the former staff when pumping up the new staff things would be so much better around here.

If a 2 star TE gets your juices flowing then hell yeah!

The first part of your post seems level-headed. The next seems to be dumping on the new staff in the same way you're lamenting those dumping on the old staff. Certainly you recognize that there's more going on in recruiting than just signing a 2-star TE. My god, we just signed the POY in the state.

Haters going to hate. These guys game in and in like 3-4 weeks solidified a team during a transition.

I'm not dumping on the new coaches. They definitely know how to turn up the atmosphere.

Griffin is an awesome pick up. The DE from Mississippi is a project but has the "look". The LB from Central looks like the average Tech recruit. I'll be excited when I see these guys making plays on the field.

But if recruiting really gets your juices flowing then hell yeah let's do this. I don't want to be perceived as stifling someone's enthusiasm. I am excited also, just more on a wait and see approach.

These same people that once claimed recruiting rankings don't matter under CPJ are coming out of the woodwork to belittle what CGC did to solidify this recruiting class in only 2 months of work. The juice is delicious if you want to take a sip...otherwise, there is plenty of room on the Navy bandwagon for you.

I get you not being excited but not you questioning why other are. Why not just stay out of it?
Because this is a board for open discussion. Sorry if my post doesn’t meet your criteria. If you don’t like it, leave the thread.

Army bandwagon. Monken is the coach I'd rather watch.

I’m all for what Collins is doing. He will next be judged by the coaching abilities of his staff. To be honest this thing can go the Dabo route or the Butch Jones route. Nobody on this boards KNOWS which is going to happen so we all just need to band together and sit back for the ride.

If a 2 star TE gets your juices flowing then hell yeah! I will hold my judgement until after I see these kids take some snaps when it matters.

Why do you feel the need to dump on the current staff so much, which you seem to do in every post?

The gaslighting is strong in here!

@edsawyer for you to insinuate that CPJ deserves partial credit for Jamious is asinine! He never wanted to play in the TO

Let’s recap what really happened and why I’m/ most are excited

In 2 months, CGC has:

Flipped 4 recruits from power 5 teams including the Gatorade player of the year Griffin (Yondjoulen, Brown & Devaney)

Got a 4* transfer in Ezzard

Had another P5 ready to flip just in case Evans didn’t sign (unheard of from last regime)

Signed 5.7 recruit Lockhart from the SEC/B1G0

If Evans was typical “Tech recruit” then why was he not on Tech radar prior to CGC?

Probably the most exciting part is there five Rivals250 guys who look to be locks to commit in the next month or so

So if you want to be patient on the hype then be my guest, but dumping on what this staff has accomplished in less than 2 months is ridiculous

Didn't Collins also get the Belgian and one of the WR's from Fla to sign in December?

Yep. Sylvain Youndjen was the Belgian and we definitely wouldn't have gotten him otherwise because I don't think CPJ's staff was going to recruit over there anymore after the Welschof kid flipped. We also flipped him from a P5 program, Arizona. Ahmarian Brown was the speed burner WR out of Florida and a very nice pickup. I don't think we were in the mix for him previously.

Not sure how much more Collins could have done in the time he had on the job. It would have been nice to get the TE Seither, but that's about it.

That wasn't point. My point was that if Quon had signed with, say, Appalachian State, I don't think his brother comes to Tech, regardless of who the coach is or what scheme we run.

+1 – except for the use of 'gaslighting'
