ACC Division Realignment

IMO Don't think a division lineup resembling old BE conference would be wise, things change over time, somewhere down the line whatever the lineup might be folks would want to change it again. Let market forces make the adjustment, IE: cgc sees a magnificent opportunity at GT and believes he can take this program to being one of the premier programs in the ACC, competing with clemson, fsu for conference and national championships. IMO mkt forces work the best over time, particularly if they are not regulated from being mkt forces.

Swap FSU and Miami and everything is good. Outside of the roundrobin before expansion, I like our line up outside of not playing FSU.

They should have switched us and UL when Maryland left. It was a natural switch. The only loss would be breaking our long streak with Duke that no one cares about.
Couldn’t Duke have been our permanent crossover opponent?

Has the conversation has ever been presented to move teams from the coastal to the Atlantic and vice versa? Maybe this would make ACC football a little more competitive and entertaining on and off the field and draw in more of an outside audience. Also to make it more regional. Lets be real, no one outside of die-hard fans care when Pitt travels to Atlanta or Boston College travels to where ever down south. But to make the divisions more regional, I think would be better for the conference. You would probably see stadiums filled and ticket sales go up. Personally, I would love it if the conference would change it up. The following is just something i came up with. Thoughts? Opinions?

Coastal
Ga Tech
Clemson
FSU
Miami
UNC
NC State
Duke

Atlantic
Boston Coll
Syracuse
Pitt
Louisville
UVA
Va Tech
Wake
You just don’t want to go back to the ACCCG for the next 10 years?

I have no desire to have Clemson, Miami and FSU in our division. I like the Tobacco Road Division: Clemson, Virginia, Virginia Tech, UNC, Duke, Wake and NCSU. The Metro Division would have GT, FSU, Miami, Louisville, Pitt, BC and Syracuse. I would prefer that only games within your division count toward determining who plays in the championship game. But, I would require teams to play three other games against schools in the other division, including any games with ND. That gives the ACC netwrork a nine game preschool inventory of conference games.

My favorite idea is to do away with divisions, require either 8 or 9 conference games, and invite the two teams with the best conference records to the championship game.

one of the big holdups is guaranteeing ACC teams have a game in Florida at least once every other year. This is a big recruiting selling point for other ACC schools and one reason why we split FSU and Miami.

If we had simply taken UMd spot when they left, UVA would have been our crossover. Clemson would have faced UL in the Coastal. And we would have had Clem and UGa at Bobby Dodd on opposite years.

Get ND and one more to do and then make this happen. Play 7 teams in your division and 2 rotating cross-over games. Get rid of the permanent crossover rival.

I like the idea of putting all the former Big East schools in the Atlantic, and leaving Wake in the Atlantic to keep it at seven teams in each division. Permanent crossover rivals as noted below.

Atlantic...................Coastal
Miami.......................FSU
VT.............................Virginia
BC.............................Clemson
Louisville..................GT
Pitt............................UNC
Syracuse....................NC State
Wake.........................Duke

Nope, uva screwed up expansion, put them in the big east.

Divisions? Where we’re going we don’t need divisions. Seriously tho, I thought this problem was already solved a couple of seasons ago when someone proposed a divisionless ACC with 3-4 perm rivals and rotating the rest. Top 2 play for championship. Boom.

No way to get n.d. They want the advantage of the ACC with none of the other things to go with it. Whores.

Coaches don’t want 9 conference games particularly teams like Tech who have an SEC or other major OOC rival.

North/South with Miami in the north.

It is the only solution.

Edit:

Yeah, that is basically the Corndog solution.
