I've seen every post imaginable, and all of them suck. In all of your drivel, none has had the stones to make this post yet, though. In fact few will follow me, and with my words I will divide rather than unite. Such is the nature of truth and reason.

We have a coach who appeals to recruits, embraces what GT is, and wants to be here. We have to give him time, and never mind all of the knee-jerk, emotional, alcohol-fueled, profanity laced idiots on this board. It will become apparent in time if Geoff has the necessary substance to back up his dreams.

He also appealed to and won over quality coaches who previously had good gigs, like Brent Key, Tashard Choice, and several others. He has coached a lot of football at big colleges and not been run off, and has proven to be a fine defensive coach. He's not an offensive mind, but he doesn't need to be. His job is to find and hire that guy. It could still be the guy he has; it's hard for me to judge given this offensive line.

Sure, Geoff is a marketer and branding guy, but isn't that the game today? Isn't that Dabo? In any organization you have to set the vision for where you are headed. The vision is that GT is going to become an elite program, and I have no doubt that Geoff is sincere in driving for that.

So I'm with him, and I'm with GT. Who's with me??

I agree with all but one point.

I DID have the stones to make this post, or very close to it. About 15 minutes ago.

:naughty:

When I started the post yours wasn't up. So therefore I put much more time and thought into it. Your post is lackluster and frankly sucks when compared to mine.
I agree. Go to my thread and say so. I need more thumbs down.

Dabo is a marketer and branding guy; but beyond that he has surrounded himself with great coordinators. I don't think most here are convinced Geoff has done that.

Maybe not, but he will do his best to get a solid staff behind him. I can’t imagine he would do otherwise.

He did that in his first 3 games? That's weird. I seem to recall Dabo being hired in the middle of the 2008 season and Venables not being hired until 2012.....after they gave up 70 points to West Virginia in the bowl game and fired Kevin Steele.

So do you think at least one of our coordinates will get the axe after losing to the Citadel? {serious question}

Too early. There will be discussion of what things to do differently and what not to do, first.

To whom shall we go? Geoff holds the keys to eternal juice.
The knee jerk seems to be to see what good OCs get fired for being sucky HCs. Can’t be too bad an idea, both Dabo and Saban have done it and have used it successfully.

Yeah, I'll be here pulling for our coach until he's gone and the next one comes along. Then, I'll pull for him as well.
Turns out, the name on the front of the shirt means more to me than the name on the back...or on the coach's office door.

We are absolutely going to have to up our budget for coordinators. Thacker and Pat combined make less than most P5 coordinators. Of course, if our fans throw in the towel year one and stop contributing, we won't be able to do that.

I am on board. Never left. Both views are right. Gameday coaching sucked. We should never lose to. Citadel. The other view. This is a major rebuild. He gets a mulligan. It is often said this is a monumemtal transition. I agree but ask- what compares in college history? Nebraska leaving the option? I don’t know just asking. Point is if it is indeed the most epic transition the mulligan is warranted. Second question, is there a resume out there that has addressed something this huge? If yes who? Certainly not CGC.

Which brings us to a logical conclusion. He is what he is and we knew it when he was hired. A marketer and recruiter and culture builder and image maker. The powers to be placed these attributes above game day coaching? Time will tell how this balances out.

Final point. Comparison to Dabo not fair. Dabo inherited 90k crazed fans and an open check book and a player friendly curriculum. No road blocks even close to what CGC has before him.

My two cents

I look at what Collins left at Temple and what PJ left here and they are night and day. I would take Temple's roster over ours and it's not even close. Temple was trash before Collins so he can rebuild pretty quickly. You have to pretty much be a PJ homer to not at least understand this transition was going to have us get much worse before it can get better. It will probably even take longer than his Temple rebuild. Therefore, anything and everything can and will happen this year, even losing to Citadel. Honestly, I thought we could just out athlete them and win but that implies we have decent P5 athletes, which we do not (on offense, I actually like some of our D players). Next year I won't be so forgiving but even next year it may still be really ugly. I truly think this is a 3+ year transition back to respectability. It's a rebuild unlike any other.

I will always support Tech and I think we are headed in the right direction. The ATL is fine but it does not work at QB or center.
