Why do you think Jamal wanted to enroll early? What do you think our coaches sold him as to the benefits?

Look. I can still love Georgia Tech. I can still think Geoff Collins is able to be successful and do everything he says he can do. I can also be unhappy with any decision he makes. I can be angry even.

I’ll never be one of those dickheads that runs and hides when things finally turn or downplay success even. Tech fans have loads of those cretins and they infuriate me to no end.
My problem is the idea that we've deviously screwed this kid over, when we don't know the details of what happened. The only details we have is the Grayson head coach pitching a bitch fit on Twitter, and Haynes seemingly expressing disappointment but a great deal more poise than his former coach who is probably 2+ decades his senior. There's a big difference between some player screwing over a program on his way out the door, and an incoming player's enrollment getting delayed because the Final Crisis Of Man And The Portal is upon us.

I truly hate it for Jamal, and if we somehow did wrong by the kid then that's ööööed up and of course I'm not okay with it. I doubt anyone here would be, and if they are then öööö them. But I do not understand all the urgency I'm seeing to rush into self-flagellation. I feel like people are swallowing Carter's ridiculous macho nonsense whole and taking it as proof that we've done something clearly wrong here when we don't know the details.

edit: I am sorry I called you a douche.

You do know that Grayson is hated by most high school coaches because they are a “win at all costs program” who dumps kids the minute they get a better one, ala Garcia. If you are really worried about what that blowhard coach thinks then you need a hobby.
They have a hobby. It is holding their breath until they turn blue until they get an option coach again.

To me, the coach’s tweet is secondary. I mean, ya, it’s awkward af but we prolly already did what we had to smooth things over with him. His ego was stroked so he got what he wanted with a phone call.

But I don’t need his tweet. I only need Jamal’s. And I know that graduating early isn’t a decision or agreement that both he and Tech verbally entered into just recently. That’s long in the making and planned for on both sides. It’s not easy to do on his part.

Jamal made it clear it was our doing which is not allowing him to continue on with those plans.

It’s prolly gonna sound like I’m white knighting or preaching from an ivory tower but within MY moral code, word is bond. Maybe that’s on me for projecting my moral code into a world that’s ööööed up beyond belief, but it’s how I’d like for the team I ride and die with to conduct its business.

This is true. Back in 2016, “University of Grayson” was trending on Twitter from rival coaches due to Grayson recruiting players. They’re AD even admitted that he struggled to schedule games because no one wanted to play them. I graduated from there before any of the allegations came to light, but all the students knew that something was up. The Nkemdiche brothers were just the beginning.

It’s a slippery slope. I get it that it throws a monkey wrench in things, but as CGC sees and hears, fairly or unfairly it’s time to win now. Coach Carter did the same with his program. This is not blueshirt or Greyshirt deal. I hope Jamal really doesn’t take it personal, but he did just received his first taste of the business of P5 football

Many of the folks acting like the kid should be upset probably undermind their co-workers with whispered allegations they have no proof of, and try to get people fired without knowing the facts or tilting the facts to work against innocent people. If so, that is truly despicable.

See how easy that is, jerk?
No.

Why is it despicable? He still has his scholarship. Besides if you check his tweets he sounds disappointed but not upset. The coach is posturing to current players and kids he wants to recruit to make himself sound like a big man. Besides it’s not a done deal that he can’t enroll early yet.
If we told him he could enroll early and then decided he couldn’t because we got a transfer, and then waited to tell him until a few days before he was supposed to be on campus, then it’s despicable.

Why is that so hard to understand?

I wasn’t party to the conversation. I don’t know exactly what happened. All I’ve got is the kid’s tweet.

I do agree the kid seems to be taking it well. Looks like a high integrity fella and I look forward to cheering for him.

You left out fans of a former coach who are butthurt that he’s gone and actively trying to undermine the current coach because butthurt.
I’m not trying to undermine GC. It actually seems totally out of character for him to do this. I’m surprised he hasn’t brought some clarity to the situation (maybe he has - I need to finish the thread). I’m a big PJ fan, but I want nothing more than GC to succeed and he appears to be working his ass off to get great players on the Flats.

You're telling me he was committed 11 MONTHS under the Infallible One and was summarily discarded DAYS before NSD? Surely this article is mistaken.
Think of it more like CPJ made a late read and barely made the pitch..

Kid went to Troy then UNC, where he majored in African-American studies.
..which naturally hit the turf and was recovered by the defense. First and ten, North Carolina.

Right, which is why I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt, as opposed to the subtweets of some macho high school coach and his lapdogs.

If the situation was something like, we either delay Haynes' enrollment and can accept a transfer, or we get Haynes in January and tell the transfer to kick rocks, I feel like that's no choice at all. And if getting Haynes in early did come at the cost of losing another player, this moment would be referenced as a weakness of Collins.

We do not know that Haynes was not consulted on this. It is entirely possible that we told him we have a possible transfer but you will have to delay your enrollment to make it happen. He may have decided to do what is best for the team. Until I know for sure, I will assume that everyone associated with Tech makes wise decisions. That is the Yellow Jacket way.

Gnonkonde doesn't seem totally analogous. It was an academic matter not purely a scholarship numbers issue. Head coaches have complete control over what football spots they offer. They don't have control over admissions. Probably Johnson and his staff should have been more aware of the potential issue and handled it better, though.

If we did that, it’s despicable, fraudulent and low-down. I really don’t understand why that’s hard for some folks to see. Hopefully GC will provide some clarity to it in the coming days.
