Last August, I saw a player slightly hurt his knee and reported it here. Everyone wanted to know who it was so after thinking about it, I decided to downplay it as not being important. It was Mario Edwards and at the time I and others were convinced that we needed his help.

He never played much and I don't know if it was knee related or that he just never worked his way up the chart. He was a pretty big recruit out of high school if I remember correctly. Anyone know his status?

He just has not caught on yet...still walk-on status.

Looks like Tarzan plays like Jane. Got to get a lot tougher if he wants to play D.

Go Jackets!

He was not that highly recruited out of HS - 2-star safety out of Westlake HS, VT and GT were his two best offers. He was the #86 Safety, and ran a 4.66 40. Recruited, but not highly recruited.

On a related note, I think that we almost always over-estimate the ability of transfers. Guys are typically transferring because they can't crack the lineup where they are, even when they say its to be close to home or whatever. I can think of some that worked out (Tashard, Dorsey Levens) but also a good number that don't. Albert Poree may be the best example I can remember.

Anyway, not calling you out, just something I've thought for a long time and your post gave me reason to voice my opinion.

Do not disagree necessarily...but we have had a few good ones...

Craig Page (C) was an excellent transfer from Navy.
Jim Lavin from Army started a couple years at OG.
John Dewberry have a few big wins coming from UGA.
Tyrone Sorrells was a multi-year starter coming from UGA.
Nick Ferguson transferred from Morris Brown to GT, started two years, and has now been in the NFL 12+ years.

We will see if Anthony Egbuniwe contributes the next two years.

My money is on Anthony Allen to contribute big.

There was AJ Suggs...I think he could have been a lot better if properly handled.

You already mentioned Choice and Levens.

I did not list any JUCO's....that does not count.

Funny, but without research I have often wondered if transfers are worth it in the end. But every time I think back there are certainly very good transfers for us. In fact, I bet we hit on 50% which is at least as good as recruits (for anybody). Dewberry, Choice, Levens, Page were all stars on their Tech teams.

Rock Perdoni JC transfer All American around 1970.

As an 11 year old kid I got to watch Rock Perdoni and Brent Cunningham (?, whoever our star back was at the time) get taped up before a game in the old tiny locker room. What a thrill that was (then I went back to selling peanuts).

Tommy Luginbill had a win as a starter! Oh wait....I was supposed to have erased that season from memory. Dammit

Luginbill actually performed well...but he was a JUCO graduate...not a transfer. As was a bunch from Nassau CC in NY courtesy of the O'Leary staff.

I thought Luginbill was from Portland St? Oh well, thats a 1-10 season I'll never bring up again.

Luginbill went to Palomar College in California for JUCO.

He chose us over Northwestern, Kansas St, Washington St., Fresno St. He would have gone to San Diego St to play for his father who was the head coach...but his father (Al) was released at the end of Luginbill's last year of JUCO.

Man you are really going back with Rock Perdoni! Interesting story about Rock. After his senior year at Tech he wasn't highly regarded by the pros. However he did ask the Falcons to draft him so he could have a chance to show that he was pro material and didn't ask for a contract unless he made the roster. When the last draft slot by the Falcons came up, they submitted John Wayne's name as a joke and left Rock Perdoni disgusted. Never liked the Falcons much since then, and that joke is probably the reason they have never had consecutive winning seasons in the history of the franchise!

IIRC, Perdoni was our first ever juco transfer.

I didn't know that Falcons story, but am not surprised at any dumb thing they did in those days.

Edwards was the back-up rover. Or backup to Morgan Burnett. Since #1 never comes out of the game he didn't play much. He played alot on special teams.

It was great to see Rock at the home game this year that they recognized all the old farts. I saw him below me and yelled at him and thanked him for being a Jacket and he shook my hand.

Fridgemover was standing nearby but I didn't speak to him. Not sure what he'd do if he knew who I was.
