Julian Burnette (LB) is a Jacket!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bosco was better. (and you could drink it from the jar. Advantage -> Bosco).

love,
ArchiTECH

You're a portly fellow, a bit long in the waistband. So what's your pleasure? Is it the salty snacks you crave? No no no no no, yours is a sweet tooth. Oh you may stray, but you'll always return to your dark master...the cocoa bean!

This is a big time commitment. 5'10" 225 lbs, 4.6 speed, benches 450, squats 550 and has over 300 tackles in the last 2 seasons.

This dude is agile, hostile and mobile. A RTMMF just what we need on D.

Go Jackets!

How is this kid only a 2 star? I don't get caught up in the stars thing but I do wonder about these scouting services' ability to grade a player. Have they just not watched enough video yet? This kid is an absolute stud LB and I can't wait to see him making plays on the Flats!

Because he is 5'9 1/2 and ran a 4.66 forty

I know why... But WHY?! Like I said, I really question recruiting services' ability to truly grade players because they look too much at inches and timed speed than pure ability. Granted, some kids are skilled but just too small to play big-time college ball but Burnett is NOT too small. He has the weight (closer to 230 now... 212 is a bit dated) and is only an inch or so shorter than ideal. Not to mention his forty time is a 4.51 on Rivals (4.66 on Scout) which IMO is the better recruiting service.

Point of reference:

Rennie Curran- Rivals: 5'11" 202 4.48 forty

4 Stars

Julian Burnett- Rivals: 5'10" 212 4.51 forty

2 Stars

Now, I'm not saying this kid is Rennie Curran but if you have seen him play, it's very clear he is an absolute stud. He makes smart plays and knocks the heck out of people. I'm just surprised he is rated that low.

Maybe I'm just being a homer. Either way, I'm happy he is here and I am sure he will prove himself on the field... so my rant is really just to express my surprise, if nothing else, lol.

How does this affect the Gilliard situation, I heard good things about him celebrating with the team in Athens, that he was leaning toward us and there's always Antonio Foster's influence (they wanted to be a package deal earlier this year) on him. Do we still want him if he chooses not to pull the trigger for Ugag after his visit to Athens today and gives us another look later?

Well...remember he already "pulled the trigger" to UGA awhile back...he has been a commit for them since last summer.

However, he does have an offer from us and we would take his commitment if he changed to GT. I think he will likely set up a visit for 12/19 after he returns from Athens this weekend....just my guess based on what I have read.

The scouts are concerned with Julian B's pass coverage skills and lateral movement. They said his straight line burst is ridiculous though.

Rather than starting a new thread, will post this here. Yesterday afternoon, the local radio show (Bill Shanks Show) was at a Wild Wings Cafe and had a bunch of the local signees and their coaches there -- along with callins of state football coaches. JB was there with his head coach and defensive coach.

JB's interview made me proud that he is coming to Tech. Am paraphrasing, but he said in talking about his reasons for coming to Tech was to get a degree that meant for something; in talking about playing next year -- his answer was that he was going to try and get on the field, but if the coaches wanted to RS him, he was okay with it. Head coach and his defensive coach raved about him -- talking about he made them great coaches -- and now they will go back to being just average. Heady, hard work, etc.

Bill Shanks (UGag fanatic) also ranted on his only 2 stars -- compared him to Rennie Curran in very similar styles.

Everyone kept calling him a football player, in that he is not flashy, not mouthy -- but will just play hard nosed football.

Was excited about Burnett already -- but the show made me more proud of our school and the recruits we get.
