Tough not to say hill or lanier. But I'm going to say roderick sweeting. He could be the shutdown corner we need.

Stephen Hill. We can throw to two sides of the field now.

I do believe that by having a second option on the field to throw to that our offense may really become potent. But I think Melton and Cone will improve this for us as much as true freshman Hill.

What I truly believe will improve throwing is our offensive line pass blocking. So are there any freshman hogs that can help right away?

Also I think Julian Burnett may become our best recruit in this class and play as a freshman.

I'd have to say Hill just because of what we have at that position. I think Lanier will RS like Barnes did, unless we can't find a good 2nd DT. I also have a hunch that Luallen will take the field at some point. Could just be in the 2nd half of Jax State but ya never know.

I think Allen will be the biggest splash...he's not a true freshman, but he wasn't in there last year...

Of the true freshmen coming in I think the obvious choice has to be stephen hill.

I'd be inclined to say Lanier. He looked very slimmed down in his signing day photo. In his film, he just looks really put together. Don't know his strength stats, but I bet he benches 400+.

I've fallen in love with some of the video of Jeremy Moore lately. Supposedly ran 4.5 and verticalled 37 at our camp. I'm not so sure he isn't as much of a prospect as Stephen Hill. Like a lot of good, fluid athletes, he is really long from the knees down. I think we got a steal.

I say either Stephen Hill or JC Lanier. We lack depth at both positions but I could really see Hill getting some major opportunities at WR as a True Frosh. The great thing about playing in this offense is that he doesn't have to be a great route-runner initially to get some open chances. Granted, this is something he needs to be able to do eventually but his down-field blocking and hands are excellent so he'll get a shot early.

i doubt hill will come in a be a stand out in a option offense. he will be a great no doubt but our offense will not be the passing threat that it soon can be this upcoming season. i agree with whoever said sweeting. without word-daniels for the better second half our secondary was lacking. i think he could definately come in a make an impact! i also like this emmaule dieke will be a stud. he will fight to play this year cause he will be able to go during spring practice.

Hill. I think he will score some TDs...maybe even some winning TDs.

Players most likely to make an immediate impact as freshmen are standout wide receivers.

Gotta go with Hill.

Long term, tough to say but there are some kids in this class that wont' be kids four years from now. They'll be men. Wealthy men.

I also have a hunch that Luallen will take the field at some point.

You may be right, but I expect CPJ to redshirt as many QB's as possible. We have Nesbitt and Shaw who saw action last year. Then there Tevin Washington who redshirted. I'm not sure how much faith CPJ will have in Dykes - he was high on the depth chart, but he was a walk-on (also red-shirted).

Interesting. Agree that Hill has the tools and WR is a position that Frosh contribute most in, but I'm not sure thats the answer because of practice reports liking some of the redshirted WRs from last year.

Not much chance
BB - Allen and Dwyer mean no fresh touches at BB
OL - if coach didn't burn OL redshirts last year, he won't this year IMHO
S - Cooper and Morgan at a position not typically rotated

Possible
QB - not likely due to depth returning and a tough system to learn. If we play a frosh QB we will be great as we have multiple upperclassmen who are good
WR - coach didn't burn any redshirts here either despite struggles so I consider it to be unlikely
DT - Unfortunately very possible due to depth
LB - Unfortunately very possible due to this being a weakness on the 2008 club

Likely
DE - Recruited four DEs so no reason not to get the best one in the rotation to help with a position best rotated and where we have depth issues
AB - No reason not to continue to play freshmen here if they can make the rotation
CB - If you discover that a recruit is a good cover corner you play them. If we struck gold on a recruit they could play a lot

I've heard that Dykes will either change positions or leave the team. Not sure how credible it is (if at all), but heard that he realized he would be buried in the depth chart...

According to a thread some time back on the Hive, Dykes has left the team and is concentrating on graduating.

What about Doc Coppage? Isn't he also a QB?
Anyone know his prospects?

Dykes has decided to leave the team and Coppage is a non-factor, he was no where near as good as Dykes but could be the next headset man Manly

I want to RS Luallen and Sims. I'd rather get Tevin in the mix and not play a true frosh unless we are in bad shape.

CPJ is a big believer in RS and I think you'll see that this year. Last year he had no choice. The Freshmen this year will really have to show something in August to not be Redshirted, I believe. Gotta think Hill has the best chance. WR is one of the easier (relatively) positions to play early at. Sweeting also could get some time at CB, behind Butler, Reid, & Peterson.

Dominique Reese will start opposite Burnett. Coop will get plenty of PT.

Stephen Hill will definitely play a lot...maybe start in the opener. This is a definite. Starting WR Corey Earls has moved to CB for the spring.

DT - Unfortunately very possible due to depth
I agree....unfortunate but true. Lets hope superstar recruit Logan Walls, Ben Anderson, and Jason Hill can step it up here. We need them. Also...we need TJ Barnes to be able to play more than 2 or 3 snaps by losing the 25 lbs. the coaches want.

LB - Unfortunately very possible due to this being a weakness on the 2008 club
If we play freshman again in 2009 we will have the same inconsistencies we had this year playing first year starters that are young. In the past 20 years only Daryl Smith played great as a first year starter that was also an underclassman...although Brooking and Rogers had their moments. Wheeler was a disaster as a freshman and had to redshirt his second year. Even Wimbush was lost as a first year starter (i.e. @UVA).

DE - Recruited four DEs so no reason not to get the best one in the rotation to help with a position best rotated and where we have depth issues
We will see...depends a lot on our 4 DT's + Lanier and how well they progress which could affect our alignments. Cross has the body to play early...the others still smaller than we want at this point. We are two deep at each DE spot coming into spring with Morgan and Hall starting...Peters and Wilson (coaches love Wilson) backing them up but playing a lot in the rotation. Egbuniwe is the 5th DE...and can spot play.

AB - No reason not to continue to play freshmen here if they can make the rotation
Agreed...we will see if Orwin needs to play. Lets hope we will not need him though because Jones, Cox, Wright, Peeples, and Lockhart are healthy and playing well...as well as some snaps to Dwyer and Allen at that spot with both of them plus Watson being able to play BB.

CB - If you discover that a recruit is a good cover corner you play them. If we struck gold on a recruit they could play a lot
I do not see Reid giving up his spot. Butler needs to look out for lots of guys....not just true freshman. Sweeting is well ahead of Miles physically as an incoming freshman. Lets hope Peterson, Riley, Jasper, Frierson, Earls can step it up here...and lets hope Tarrant gets his deal cleaned up (if innocent) so he can regain his starting spot.
