Stafford Puts his Foot in his mouth?

Matt Stafford sucks and they shouldnt reach at him with a ten foot pole. For a team with horrible o and d lines, this is the most boneheaded pick i've ever heard of. If they pick him, the NFL should move the lions out of detroit.

It really pisses me off because CJ has to stay with this pathetic franchise for another few years.

I've decided the perfect scenario since it seems to be inevitable that these two will be teammates.

Since Calvin is amazing and Stafford is mentally challenged, but has a great arm, Stafford throws a ton of deep balls to Calvin, giving CJ 2,000 receiving yards on the season and the league MVP, but all of Staffy's other passes that require touch or short routes to another receiver are awful, leading to quotes like, "Stafford's not very good, but Calvin Johnson's so amazing he makes him look alright."

Go Calvin. Boo corky.

And Detroit's curse continues.

I'd heard Detroit was going to try and not pick anyone at #1, since there's nobody in this year's draft worth the money.

"Look at me ma, I got me a $40 million deal! I'M F*** ALL OF YALL!"

Commence the rest of Idiocracy.

If I got a guaranteed $40M contract, you bet I would NOT hesitate to tell EVERYONE. That includes the guy ahead of me in the grocery store line that is holding us all up because he doesn't know the balance on his food stamps card.

I still think Sanchez is a much safer bet. You know he has been schooled by Pete. I would think long and hard before I took an ignorant nadlicking sob

Man take the gold colored glasses off for a second and look at this rationally. Yes, this is a below average QB draft. But Stafford has one of the best arms of any draft prospect over the last 5 years. Which means he's deserving of a first round pick. The fact that he is easily the best QB in this below average draft, makes him a top half of the first round pick. And then throw in the fact that the Lions have the best talent ever at WR, in Calvin Johnson and yet don't have any person to throw it to him, make QB the #1 priority.

The Lions happen to draft 1 overall... they'd be stupid not to take Stafford at this point. They blew their chances in not trading for a QB, as I would have done if I were their GM. At this point, you gotta take Stafford with the #1 overall. With their second pick they need to land a OT, and after that, they need to draft an entire defense.

You gotta be ****ing kidding right? A guy with one year experience who played with a team that my dead grandma could have won at least 8 games with? And what kind of pedigree NFLers has Pete Carroll put in the NFL? How is Sanchez a "much safer bet"?

Just saying, I didn't ask you to agree.

By the way, your grandma must have been hell on wheels.

One more thing, I will take Pete over st. nadlicker getting his boys ready for the NFL anyday. I know you might not agree but that's OK as well.

Well Matt Cassel just caused an uproar with everyone trying to trade for him. Carson Palmer is generally considered to be a very good quarterback stuck on a dysfunctional team. Matt Leinart is still a question mark I guess, but I'm not sure the Lions wouldn't trade the #1 pick for him.

Well Richt has Shockley and Greene in the NFL. Carrol has Palmer and Leinart. So Carroll definitely has a leg up but I think Palmer and Leinart were better prospects with a better surrounding cast than Shockley and Greene.

Matt Cassell doesn't ring a bell? Look all I'm saying is Pete coached in the NFL, yes not very successful but he knows what the Teams want and look for on more levels since he was there. Sanchez is safer than nadlicker, sorry.

edit: nadlicker has never really faced any adversity. Sanchez waited his turn when he could have left but he didn't. He stayed, played his role and had a decent year.

Here's the thing, next year's QB draft is worse than this years, so if you're not going to draft a QB, you gotta think you are two years out on a QB.

If I were the Lions I would have traded for a couple of good pedestrian QB's or picked some up in free agency, drafted a steal like Rhett Bomar in the 3rd or 4th round, and if I couldn't trade down in the draft and out of the #1, I would take Jason Smith, and then draft Peria Jerry or Rey Maualuga depending who I felt was a bigger need. The Lions need a crap ton of help on defense, outside of going after Bomar, they need to focus on drafting DB's and LBs.

Thats what I'd do. But since they didn't get a serviceable QB in free agency, I'd be taking Stafford with the #1 pick unless I could trade down and get more draft picks (assuming I could draft Sanchez later) and take Maualuga with the later 1st round pick.

Next years QB class (2 Heisman winners)
Sam Bradford,
Jevan Sneed,
Colt McCoy,
Tim Tebow,
Juice Williams,
Dan LeFevour
Ryan Periloux (sp?)
Riley Skinner
Todd Reesing
Matt Grothe

This years QB class
Stafford
Sanchez
Freeman (where did this kid come from all of a sudden?)
Pat White
Nate Davis
Graham Harrell
Cullen Harper
Rudy Carpenter
John Parker Wilson
Curtis Painter
Brian Johnson
Chase Daniels

(this was mostly off the top of my head so I may have forgotten someone)

I see 4 very likely future starters in next years class. This year I see maybe 3 and if one of them gets into the right system 4.

If I were an NFL team I wouldn't be afraid of next years QB class, and honestly it looks better than this years.

I have never understood all the love for Mark Sanchez.

I don't understand how Stafford has put his foot in his mouth. His agent probably told him to say that.

I personally don't care for the guy but I can't root against a guy who's throwing to Calvin Johnson regardless of where he played in college. If he goes to Detroit then I hope he completes every pass he throws to CJ.

I've got no problem with Stafford being #1. He's got the arm to get the ball to Calvin so it's a win,win situation. I'd rather have him in the pros than back for another year with ugay.
