He says he talks to Denzel McCoy about three times a week and made several friends with the new commits at the GT elite camp.

Says he was close to naming his decision, I am assuming GT, but his parents wanted him to visit Florida, Auburn, and LSU first.

For right now GT is his top spot, but we will have to wait and see how that changes after he visits the freaking SEC.

Hopefully Denzel and his new friends will help him see the Golden GT light! :fingersx:

if we get him or green i will be happy. if we could somehow get both i'd go crazy. i love how cpj is recruiting the state of ga like crazy. makes us stronger and the pups weaker.

I love how we're getting DL prospects like crazy, even after Tenuta left. I also really love the depth we've created in the secondary.

LB still concerns me a little, but I suspect that LB isn't as important a position in our new defense.

Yeah I'm starting to wonder if this 2 LB, 4 DB and a hybrid was the master plan all along. Also, don't forget we have no senior LB's so we can decide to not get one in the class if we don't want one. Similar to QB.

I think this situation really underscores the importance of relationships formed between prospects and how it impacts their decision. The whole thing is eerily similar to fraternity rush in that the "rushees" are choosing a "fraternity" based, in part, on the group of "pledge brothers" with whom they'll spend the next 4 to 5 years.

Its not the overriding factor, but mucho importante none the less.

Agreed, it seems that if the prospects have good relationships with new commits it really helps. It's kinda seems like when you are at a job fair or something and you hear great things about this company, but you really start to like things when you hear it from the employees, not the recruiters.

Keep it up Jackets, it's a collective effort even in recruiting!

If we have 12 schollies to give this year, I'd prefer to take at least one of every position, including LB. Don't like having any gaps if we can help it.

We've already dedicated a third of our class to defensive secondary - two CBs and two Safeties. If we take two DLs also, as this thread would imply, then we've taken half our allotment with no LBs yet, and only 3 on the offensive side of the ball so far.

With 12 slots, I think 7 on D, 5 on O is probably good distribution. We've already got 5 on D, so we can probably only take 2 more guys. Williams and a LB would end our D recruiting. Since Bostic may go both ways, that'll actually be more like 6.5 defense and 5.5 offense.

On O, we've got a couple O line, a RB, and Bostic as an Athlete who plays QB in high school. We clearly need to take at least one WR, and at least one more RB/FB, which only leaves one more open slot on O.

Also agreed, Williams would be a great pickup, but I really want a LB, too. Anyone give me a rundown of prospective LB's? Do we have any WR prospects?

Here are the Scout links for our LB prospects, according to them. I think our coaches are probably way ahead of the recruiting services, though, considering how our first batch of commitments were all unevaluated.

http://georgiatech.scout.com/a.z?s=140&p=9&c=4&pid=27&yr=2010

Among those, these three are the only non committed ones we have offers out to:

Michael Taylor:
http://georgiatech.scout.com/a.z?s=140&p=8&c=1&nid=3817828
130 tackles as a junior, whole asston of offers, lists Georgia 'high.'

Telvin Smith:
http://georgiatech.scout.com/a.z?s=140&p=8&c=1&nid=4175048
Mess of offers, lists Florida and LSU high.

Deandre Smelter:
http://georgiatech.scout.com/a.z?s=140&p=8&c=1&nid=4041363
Many offers, lists UGA and Tech high.

Nothing jumps out among those guys, but Michael Taylor's bio looks impressive. 130 tackles is a lot of freaking tackles.

I'd rather take another DT like Green instead of a linebacker. We are extremely thin at DT and need all the bodies we can get. Bostic won't play on offense. He is going to be strictly defensive, unlike Jemea Thomas who might go both ways.

We really don't stand a whole lot of chance with any of those three. Telvin is pretty much off the table for several reasons. Deandre is probably going to play major league baseball. Taylor is most likely headed to U(sic)GA. We might not land a LB and I would be perfectly happy with that.

I also believe we are content with the RB's and OL. I think, if the number of schollies stays at 12, we look to get a QB (white???), a DE (williams, if not, then anderson), a LB (cornileus), and a DT (greene). Who knows how these change, but i think this would be our best situation.

Lets not forget that 12 scholarships was the "at least" for this class. The coach said 12 to 15, so we might take one or two more if they want it.

I don't think Smelter has ever played LB and he would have to bulk up some. More likely he goes somewhere where he'll get a chance to play safety. He may go with baseball but a school willing to let him play both would have a good sales pitch (hint, hint).

don't see the problem with not signing a lb this class as long as we sign at least 3 next season. i'm not really to worried about getting a qb this class either. sims or luallen will redshirt, maybe both and you still have nesbitt, shaw, and tevin on the 3 deep right now. if we could deepen both lines with this recruiting class i would be fine with that.

Let us also not forget that 0 LB's will be leaving the program after 2009.

If we take more than 12 someone will have to transfer or enter the draft early. As of now the number is 12.
