Stingtalk gets mention in NYtimes....

Does the Hive still ban posts that contain "negative" comments, or was that just a Chan era thing?

Affirmative. If you step out of bounds, they still nuke you in a heartbeat, especially if you aren't in one of the cliques.

I just don't get the Hive. I have actually never read it because I heard so much bad stuff about it that I never had any interest. Did they think that if they didn't allow posts about the problems in the CGE that those problems would go away or something?

The Hive's policies were an overreaction to try and deal with a flood of assholes who basically ruined the board with HWFO. Their policies were/are draconian, but they were draconian by necessity to keep it from looking like what the Miami boards look like today.

This is interesting. So did Stingtalk not have all the HWFO? If not, why not? And if so, did it "ruin" Stingtalk? (I really hardly ever visited any boards until after Chan was let go.)

I think the ignore feature helps a lot. Assholes who little better to do than HWFO aren't usually the persevering type. As soon as people stop responding, they move on and make their own boards (cough...BBuzzOfff...cough).

People do post negative comments and there are the same disagreements over there as there are here. BUT there is no profanity, there is no bashing of players, there is no calling for coaches to be fired and there is no political discussion allowed. It is also still much more active than this board in terms of threads and posts.

Scout is active...it's good for general information, some smack talk with opposing fans(b/c most other schools use their scout boards as well), and there are some good/knowledgeable posters there.

It's still my #2 though, for the reasons ncjacket listed above. And honestly, seeing how it's most likely to be read by a potential recruit/recruit's parents, I'm ok with it being kept clean.

I'll settle this debate once and for all: if the Hive had its way, then CPJ would not be here today.

We intentionally limit the activity of this board to GT fans only. We do accept some Navy and Georgia Southern fans for obvious reasons, but fans of every other school are denied. This keeps the focus on Tech without idiotic smack talk. Basically, if I cared what fans of other schools thought, I would read their board just as they can read ours. They just can't post here.

Not true. The Hive simply didn't allow people to openly call for his firing. But the sentiments there were pretty much what they were here.

The Hive is a good place to post. Lot of good folks over there. RR's a good guy, he just runs a tight ship, much tighter than here. The thing I like about this board is it pretty much self-moderates. The folks who get out of line are pretty much called down. Then again, the line here is far more broad than is the Hive.

ncjacket, I got banned last year for making the statement, after we had lost like 6 IAR, "it may be time for a change." That's a little extreme, IMO. Funny thing is, my "Insider" account had just run out because my credit card number changed, and I was considering whether or not to re-up. I had made statements like that before without the bat of an eye.

I then got PO'd at them (my bad, not theirs) and made a couple of very minimal political posts, confined in one thread, got banned again, and I posted under my wife's font. They must have noticed the same IP address and my old font (stinger78) got removed. I was notfied I had to reapply for permission to post. It ain't happening. 7 years - not only of my typically insightful, profund posts, but 6 years having paid dues as an Insider. But I was no longer part of the clique.

Eh... life goes on.

I for one would be interested to hear anyone else's stories about dealing with the Hive. I have had many friends tell me that at one time you almost couldn't even type "Chan" without getting banned and that it's getting that way with Hewitt.

F*** the Hive.

If you want to wade through the crap that is all the pandering to the openly gay or openly female posters, the massive unsubstantiated claims by people with no connections or credentials, and the cliqueness of the insider folks, it's great. Last time I even read the site I saw a thread where RR cited Elton John as the epitome of rock music in an attempt to prove that coldplay was not gay music.
