On offense:

1) Anthony Allen can't block for squat.

2) Nesbitt only made the right reads on the triple about half the time.

3) Dumb penalties.

If you look at every run play that went for zero or negative yards in slomo, you see at least one, sometimes two guys who either completely booch their blocking assignment or who try to block the wrong guy. Or we made the wrong read on the triple. This is the problem. Miami did a good job getting off our cut blocks, and we did a poor job running the plays as called.

This offensive system could have worked vs Miami if we'da run the plays effectively.

I didn't really spend a lot of time breaking down the video of our defensive effort, because it was just too depressing. The defense that was out there last night was basically identical to the 1999 defense. I'm sure plenty of people have whined and bitched about it in other threads, and I have really nothing to add.

I think we can still probably win 8 games this year, but I don't see anyone catching Miami in the Coastal, and I doubt we beat Georgia unless we find a defensive line under a rock someplace.

Then what should we do with Allen. He seems like a great athlete. But if you can't block in this offense then...

I agree with all except last paragraph. I think that we will still be able to run our offense against UGA.

We also get our only week off the week before them giving our D a big breather (seeing as how apparently the only game they weren't gassed in was the first one*).

I think we'll be OK this season and still see big things possible.

*Who is the jackets strength and conditioning coach? They need to find out why our D is so out of breath all the time. For the amount of 'exertion' they are putting in (based on how tired they look) you'd think we'd be getting better results, not just D-Linemen hitting O-Linemen and then stopping.

Have him and Dwyer swap positions, is the first thing that comes to mind to me.

So what are the arguments against this? I guess for one thing, the B back position is also required to block, if not as much. For another thing, Allen does have good hands and there are less passing plays to the B back.

I just watched the replay
Bravo man, I'm not so sure I can re-watch that game without mental anguish. It'll be like psychological torture. Thanks for the review.

Not saying it's a bad idea, but the main argument against is that Allen problem isn't a very good power runner. I think that is why he left Louisville.

Why did you even make a thread beej? There's nothing you said here that hasn't been said in the 11ty billion other meltdown threads.

I was screaming at AA to block all night.

I don't know how to make the reads yet...still learning.

How many false starts? 5? 6? 20? Ridiculous.

In all this though, our OL STILL got manhandled and I think if we were able to get any protection we would have fared much better.

I still think that we will come alive over the next couple weeks. I keep hoping that it's the next game. But we aren't gonna be able to do squat in a season if it takes us a month to get going.

I didn't want to read 11ty billion other threads, and I just watched the whole damn game in slomo, so I wanted to talk about what I saw in detail.

to piss you off and it seems to have worked

good job!

What makes you think that? If we field the team we saw last night I dont think we would be able to run against UGA. At this point to I am scared to death of AJ Green and the other excellent receivers UGA has. Joe Cox may not be a Matt Stafford, but I guaran-****en-tee you that if he has a halfway decent game they could put 30 up on us.

We need to move Dwyer around if only to give teams another look and to keep them from getting to comfortable in their assignments. I think getting Allen in at B-Back for some plays would be a good thing.

We're missing Cox's blocking at A-Back. Can he play OT? (kidding....sort of)

In both the running and passing game, it seems like Nesbitt is pre-determining where he's going with the ball rather than reading the defense.

Agree on all points JTS. Last year it seemed like when we got in a hole, moving JD to A-Back for a few plays was a pretty good way to mix it up and get out...haven't done that yet.

AA's running ability is great, but if he can't do his part on the other 80% of the plays he needs to sit down. Almost seemed scared to hit people at times.

Nesbitt does seem to have regressed in his option reading ability, and his pass reading ability was almost none-existent last night. Even the commentators pointed out that he knew where he was gonna throw before the play started.

Alas, it is still very early in the season and I expect our offense to click more as the season goes on...still a pitiful, pitiful start though.

Part of the reason Nesbitt was making the wrong reads was due to the poor blocking of the Oline.

Then what should we do with Allen. He seems like a great athlete. But if you can't block in this offense then...

YOU BENCH THE MF until he decides he's a big boy now and wants to block. Replace him with Cox, who may not be flashy but Christ he gets the job done and produces better results.
