Well, has to increase our chances a little bit anyway...why in the hell would Bud Foster be asking Georgia for advice on defending our offense? :laugher:

Here's the paragraph from the article, link to the article is below that....

"Yet Foster thought the Hokies could perform better, so he spent more time studying the Jackets after last season than he does with most teams. In March, he and the defensive staff analyzed Georgia Tech film for a week. Then they traveled to Georgia and got some tips from its staff, which also plays the Jackets every year, about defending Johnson's offense. Foster revisited the Georgia Tech film in the summer."

Makes sense to me. If I wanted to know how NOT to do something correctly I'd go ask the biggest moron I could find (Martinez). That way all I'd have to do is the complete opposite to be successful.

If this is the case, he's already scheduled a symposium with Mickey Andrews.

:laugher: Just record everything Martinez says, play it for the team and say "If you do ANY of that, I will pull your scholarship."

Looking at the UGa game film isn't a bad idea. Uga did a good job defensively in the first half. Then CPJ made some blocking adjustments and we blew them up. Foster could get an idea of the types of in game adjustments that can be made. Knowing that, he can look for keys about when and what to counter. It could be the difference between giving up 26 pts in a quarter and 16 pts.

I trust CPJ to counter the counter though. Nesbitt has been on a roll lately. Foster can't let him run the keeper on the midline all game long. But if you focus your DL and LBs to much on that, you might miss Dwyer actually getting the ball on the dive (I'm looking at you FSU).

Best line in the article:

"So far, Exum said, mimicking an option system, which he never used at Deep Run, hasn't proved too tough."

This coming from their "true freshman free safety" who played QB in High School and is running the scout team in practice. Let me get this straight. A QB, who no longer plays QB, who has never run an option offence, says mimicking our offence isn't that tough.

I feel better about this week already.

Yeah. Me too.

Safe to say that Bud Foster must be the only D-Coordinator in this country that has went to seek advice from Willie?

I don't feel better because I'm convinced that Bud Foster isn't an idiot. His players might be, but he's not. I really hope some school who is in need of a head coach throws a lot of money at him. And I hope this team is not on our schedule.

It's simple. They don't know ANYTHING outside of their own state. They don't know we have more NC's, more conference titles, and they don't know that we beat SEC teams all the time.

Eventually, every coach* or assistant in football will look like a moron for a day. Maybe Saturday is Bud's day.

* - Except our lord and savior, Paul Johnson.

This + 1000.

Correct. Look for an unrewarding first half of Saturday's game while CPJ processes the data. If VT stops us on our first four or five possessions, it will be imperative that our defense stop or at least contain Taylor from getting too far ahead. But then watch us roll. From a purely athletic standpoint don't you think Georgia's defense, man-for-man had better players and more speed than Virginia Tech? CPJ has said it: athletic superiority trumps any scheme. If Georgia's defense couldn't stop us consisitently I don't think Virginia Tech will have that much success.

Foster can be beat, but give the man his due. He's a great DC. But CPJ is a great HC/OC. It will be a great matchup.

What gives me some hope is that VT's pass defense has been suspect. Pass defense seems to be a better indicator than run defense for how our offense will perform. Teams with good pass defenses make plays in space. That's what you need to stop our offense (assuming you can't just blow up the line like LSU did last year).

Coaches talk all the time, especially in ones like this, whole enemy of my enemy is my friend. That said, I really doubt Foster got much out of the conversation, he's one of the best DCs out there, and lil willy has struggled even with a very talented pool of players.

That said, I don't see scoring being the problem Saturday, we are going to put points on the board, it's a matter of how many defensive stops each side gets

Bud Foster is overrated. VT's special teams play make him look like a genius.

"Linemen don't often have to worry about the kind of high-low blocking combinations Georgia Tech uses. "You'll be on a guy, and there is another guy down at your legs," Hokies defensive line coach Charley Wiles said. "How do you practice that without getting one of your guys potentially nicked?"

They're practicing chop blocks to prepare for our cut blocks? Or is the DL Coach trying to plant a seed for the refs?

This is VT we are talking about here. They had to rely on a helmet-to-helmet to beat us last year. Obviously it's the latter.
