“It’s a major concern because chop blocks are part of what they do,” Shannon said. “It’s always the backside of it, not the front side. We are going to work on it in practice. I don’t know if the officials will see it. They probably will not see it, but its part of what we have to work on. We have to work on it and tell our guys that we can’t depend on officiating to help us. If the guy gets you, you have to get up off the ground and keep running. The difficult part of it is that you can lose somebody due to it, and you don’t want that to happen.”

He forgot to mention illegal formations and false starts.

Reading this I think Shannon is one of many who do not understand the difference between cut blocks and chop blocks. I think the HE thinks cut blocks are illegal based on his comments. As a coach he should know better, but ...

Many running teams use cut blocks and Wake Forest got the same grief years ago. All the righteous indignation about injuries is thwarted by the fact that there is no correlation to increased injuries when playing GT.

He's just jealous because the only block his players are known for require jumpsuits and roll calls.

He is so squarely ensconced on the hot seat that he is making excuses before games even start now.

What about Randy Shannon has ever hinted at him being a good or even moderate coach?

I could coach the UM team with that talent they get and do about as well as he's done.

If you've ever listened to Randy Shannon talk, you know he's a complete idiot. We all love to make fun of Dabo, but this guy sounds far dumber than he does. He may be a good guy and he's kept the Canes out of trouble off the field, but there's been nothing impressive about his coachine tenure on the field.

He probably won't have to worry about these "illegal blocks" after this year, though.

Dabo Swinney > Randy Shannon

I'll give Randy Shannon props for keeping his kids out of trouble. But hey, lots of good high school principals do the same thing and probably couldn't coach a football team out of a wet paper bag.

Ever see "Lean on Me" with Morgan Freeman?

That's Randy Shannon right there.

Yep, he is getting his pre loss excuses in. His time remaining in Miami, or as the coach of anything above D2 football, is limited.
