UGA's Arch painted Gold

I heard a story back in the early 80's that the Tech Band was not allowed to do their walk through on Saturday morning at Sanford Stadium before the COFH game because a few years earlier they each had a handfull of rye grass, made a GT symbol as part of the show and dropped it in place. Later in the winter there was beautiful stand of rye grass in the form of the GT symbol right in the center of the field.

I also heard that the UGA band tried to retaliate by doing the same on Grant Field the next year. They didn't realize that Rye Grass won't grow on Astroturf.

That was 1970.

It was not a BOR prank unless someone has done it before or since the linked article.

Maybe. BOR took credit for doing that at one point about 5 years ago in a Hive post (IIRC). At that time it was spoken of as an historical event. If he truly did it at all, I have no idea the time frame.

If I recall from BOR's original post on The Hive, he said he showed up in a van with a painter's decal on it, pretending to be a painting contractor. They did it in broad daylight and set about doing the work. They even had a bogus official-looking work order to show.

Some campus cop came up to them and asked what they were doing while painting it in GT gold. BOR replied it was a special anti-rust primer and presented his bogus work order. The cop was like..."OK" and went about his business.

After BOR and his "crew" finished painting the arch GT gold, they simply cleaned up and left.

GO JACKETS!!

I remember the donuts on UGA's field like it was yesterday. There was too much damage to fix and it was clearly visible on TV. They retaliated by murdering our giant balloon buzz. I remember the poor guy deflating.

Geez, seemed pretty easy.....Someone needs to act like they are the official Veterinarians for UGA and go in saying they are giving him a regular check up....then dip his sorry ass in a bucket of gold and leave
