We'd get seven hundred million dollars ($700,000,000.00). That would keep us going for a long time.
I doubt it. The buyout of every team before us would be split between every other remaining team.
y = Sum from k=1 to k=N-1 (x/(N-k))
N=14
x=$50 million
y = $159 million
So we would get only $159 million. Still not bad.
Under my theory, all 14 of the other teams would leave the ACC at the same time to join the WAC, with the demand that the WAC accept John Swofford as the WAC's new commissioner, thus leaving us with the entire $700,000,000.00, plus the ACC's TV and Orange Bowl deals. We would not be independent, we would still be in the ACC, but it would be a one team league. We would play 12 nationally televised games a year. The team that beat us the worst would play us as a "guest challenger" in the ACC Championship Game, with the winner going to, of course, the Orange Bowl. If we lost the ACCCG, we would be guaranteed a spot in the Peach Bowl, provided we were 6-6 going into the ACCCG. In seasons in which we were unbeaten, we would play the team the lost to us by the fewest points in the ACC Championship Game. If we won the ACCCG and were invited to the National Championship Game or Tournament, then the ACC would not be able to fulfill it's spot in the Orange Bowl. Similarly the combination of the seven teams that beat us the worst and/or we beat by the least would be invited as "guest challengers" in the ACC Basketball Tournament. The ACCCG and the ACC Basketball Tournament would both be played on the Tech campus. Naturally, only Tech players would be eligible for the All Conference Team.
