Other than playing a bunch of nobodies, here are some of their notable game results:

Got beat by Iowa who has a 4-9 record. The score was 18-17.

Beat Army in a barn burner by one point. Score 41-40

Beat Kansas 30-23.

Beat a ranked Kent State team (How the öööö are they ranked?) 44-37 in 2-OTs.

Really this is pathetic. Was the Orange Bowl out of options?

All the more reason to get out of this crap conference w/ it's crap bowl tie-ins.

they earned AQ status by ranking in the top 16 from a non-AQ (non ND) conference and being ranked higher than a champion of a BCS confernce (Wisco and Louisville/Syracuse/Rutgers with Louisville earning the BCS trip)

Orange Bowl got last pick.

New BCS rules made NIU an automatic At-Large qualifier.

The Orange Bowl had to take them.

EDIT: ^ got beat, answer above.

NIU coach going to NCSU so he won't even be coaching in the game.

FSU should stomp them or it will be completely embarrassing for the ACC, if we haven't already embarrassed ourselves enough.

Well that's the only good thing is we don't get embarrassed on the National Stage. ACC got to win some bowl games. Including GT.

Kent State beat Rutgers (only notable win) and got their asses kicked by Kentucky early in the year.

FSU will wax this team.

I'll add two things:
1. This rule was added years back so that BCS doesn't get sued by the non-AQ conferences. It gave them access.
2. The new playoff format keeps the non-AQ conferences (now includes Big East also) out of Rose, Orange and Sugar bowls. They can go to the next best bowls, Peach, Fiesta and Cotton likely.

Northern Illinois did not make the BCS rules they only play the game under them. When Jimbo announces he is gone to Auburn the Criminoles will probably collapse and lose to the mighty NIU Huskies. Another ACC milestone.

Go Jackets!

Not a chance FSU loses this, even if they hire John L. Smith to coach the bowl game. A coachless team that made its regular season money on a decent QB, great playcalling, and a ridiculously weak schedule versus a coachless team that has top 10 recruiting classes in its sleep is a no brainer.

Run your predictor first. Powerrank.com has FSU ahead only about 5 points.

I'll be running it later for the ACC bowl record thread. I expect it to agree with Vegas for the most part, or maybe more optimistic on the part of NIU, but gameplanning is a real strength of that team. Minus the head guy, the talent gap will be too vast for an upset, IMO.
