What Can We Expect in 2013?

beginning this year, i posted our d would be bad again, don't expect much if any improvement, it all starts with the DL and we stink.

we also talked about the OL being not that good and overrated

most of us...were right.

Here is the point. DL don't succeed with FR or RS Fr. They just dont'. Even if we switch to 1gap 4 down, we are sorely thin with quality, toughness, experience since they are either young, or we really don't have much there.

So with all due respect, I again, don't expect huge strides on the D. I hope for better scheme. I hope for more enthusiasm. But IMO we have glaring issues on the line that have not been addressed.

On O I hope for the QB light to come on and we should be better on the OL. Combination of age and size coming in for help. The problem is, PJ won't sit the mediocre player, or move him, for the better one. It takes too long (jackson/mason swap, kidney benching, etc).

We will see. Leaning to 7 wins. Spring should be fun; and maybe i will be more optimistic.

IMO we have reached the GT average, or Gailey avg, of 7 wins.

The Gailey average would be 8 wins if we played 12 regular season games then. What you're saying is that we are under the Gailey average the last three years.

We will see more of the passing game next year. Expect 15-20 pass attempts a game. A 4-3 defense that gives up 17 points a game. CPJ turns it around and I look stupid for saying fire him. That is my hope.

CGE was 7-5. Dunno what you're talking about.

Low end next year - 7-5 with bowl

High end next year - 9-3 with bowl, but not winning the Coastal IMO.....

I love Tevin's commitment and dedication and he has made some plays. But we will have an upgrade at QB in 2013, someone faster and a better arm.
The big losses on the O will be the two Os, Orwin and Omoregie. Sims has really impressed me the last two weeks. Needs to keep his feet more but he ran hard against Thuga and FSU.
I contend that Autry's knee injury really crippled the deep strike capability of the offense. He was blossoming until he got hurt.
Defensively, the loss of Barnes in the middle may be an addition by subtraction. He just didn't ... dominate like someone his size ought to. Sweeting also did not have a very good year.
I think Gotsis will improve and I think the redshirting DL will help. They can't be much worse than what he had out there. Could they?
I still like the LB corps and Jeremiah had the kind of game against FSU I've been waiting all season for him to have.
I see Tech moving back to a 4-3 with Nealy in the middle and Watts and Sneezy on the outside, along with JHD. Jemea, Young, Holton, Golden and Lynn Griffin should give us a pretty good secondary.
I was encouraged by the D in the 2nd half Saturday. A whole bunch got asked of them and they delivered, again and again. The kicking game, other than the first punt, was really good too. I'm hoping for something close to a repeat performance in El Paso.
I will offer that I am not the most impartial observer because I have known PJ for about 16 years and trust and respect him. I fully believe 2013 will be better and I still think the loss to Va Tech last year just took the air of that team and maybe this year's team too.

Care to elaborate?

Sure. None of those listed are the most "important" guys. They may represent some of our best players, but I believe there are more important players on the roster in 2013. You didn't ask, but I believe those players to be QB, BB, WR, and everyone on the DL. Of those, only Sims is a match, and I believe it's "important" that someone pass him on the depth chart.

Really no Coastal? We'd need to beat at least 2 of the 3 Coastal threats (VT, @Miami, UNC) and probably one of the Atlantic powers (Clemson, FSU). As of right now we get 4 of those games at home. I think that's attainable. Pretty likely we end up 5-3 or 6-2. Then it's all tie-breakers.

My low end expectations for next season are 5-7 (3-5), losing every ACC home game, Miami, UGAy, and BYU.

We'll have yet another new defensive scheme, WR is still a questionmark, and our schedule is pretty rough for an ACC schedule. We draw Clemson, VT, UNC, and FSU, which may very well be the top 4 teams in the conference next year. Miami we should beat but they seem to be inside our head, so in my worst case that's a loss. Georgia's entire 2-deep is going to the NFL so we'll have a better shot than usual, not saying much, worst case L. BYU badger don't care, L. Not a stretch.

My high end expectations for this team are 9-3 (6-2) and a coastal crown depending on whether UNC is postseason eligible by next year (they'll be 7-1 or 8-0 ACC).

We get most of the tough teams at home, we redshirted a lot of potentially exciting names on both sides of the ball this year, and our new DC could rock it. We seemingly beat Clemson much more than is appropriate, so I can swing that to a W. VT sucks right now so they could potentially keep sucking, W. UGAy's entire 2-deep is going pro, and we could have a much better game against BYU this time around, split. We really should beat Miami, W. The 2 ACC losses i'm counting here are UNC and FSU, but feel free to substitute those for any 2 of our big 5 ACC opponents you feel are most appropriate if it helps.

Anything more or less than that will be an enormous surprise to myself. I feel like we'll end up in the 7 wins or less region though, unless CPJ can find a way to motivate the players. Even if we do put everything together, motivation can cause us to lose games we should win (and has).

With improvement in intensity and overall energy:

low 8-5 with bowl loss in Russel
high 12-2 ACC Champs and victory over still reeling from NCG miss UGA

With more of the same in terms of intensity and energy:

low 7-6 with bowl win in DC
high 9-4 with UGA/Bowl/Coastal win pick one.

6-6.

@ UVA - loss
Clemson - loss
@ BYU - loss
@ Miami - loss
VT - loss
FSU- loss

5-7. Got a tougher schedule and we still have Tevin running the ship.
