About Chan\'s Offense and the ACC in general...
I think there's 1 point that needs to be made about Chan's offense and the defenses he faces. Yes, his offense isn't flashy and it's not designed to ring up a lot of points. But he also came into this league at a time when the defenses have greatly strengthened.
If you look at the ACC from top to bottom, most of the schools have decent to good to great defenses. I'm talking Miami, VPI, UVA, F$U, NC State, Tech, Maryland, BC, Clemson, Wake and even UNC are starting to get tougher on defense...These are all schools that do a good to really good job of keeping opponents out of their end zone (with the exception of UNC recently).
Even the Fridge is finding it difficult to score in this league now. If Joe Hamilton were QB'ing us and Fridge was coaching us, we still wouldn't ring up all the points that we did back in the late 90's. There are very few teams that you can expect to roll up 40 points on now in our conference.
Our conference is now one of the toughest, most physical, smashmouth conferences in the nation...right up there with the SEC and all their defenses. The change in our conference in the last 5 years has been fast, historic and surprising. In the 90's, only FSU and some UNC teams could really strap it on and lay the wood to people on defense. But around 2000 or so, things shifted and we're not an offensive conference anymore.
I'm not saying this to defend Chan. It's just that after seeing the scores around this conference for the last few weeks/years it's become apparent that Chan has a big task in front of him every week.
I say all this, even though I really don't like his offense to this point. It's just worth mentioning.
The ACC is God-awful tough now.
