if UGA sucked, would people be as pissed at Gailey

It seems like Gailey has the misfortune of winning 6-7 games per year at a time when the Doggies are winning 10+.

In years past, our coaches would have been applauded for winning 7, going bowling and beating Auburn. Instead Coach gailey is on the doorstep to unemployment.

I wonder if the mediocrity pill would be easier to swallow if Ugag wasn't doing so well. Or do we simply have unrealistic expectations?

Irregardless, their happiness makes me more miserable.

there is some truth to that assumption but, even if ugag wasnt the current world beaters that they are, the roller coaster is no longer fun.

Truth is that we hate that UGAg has a great program. However, why would that impact the acceptance of us now having a middle of the road, blah blah program?

If we had 3 wins over ugag to add to the rest of Gailey's results, he probably wouldn't be in the position he's in. Of course 3 wins over ugag would probably also have shown up in recruiting. It is all relative, but it's also the way it is.

I agree with the original question, and I agree with this. All other things being equal, our 7 win seasons would be 8.

The other side to this is would ugag allow MR to lose 3 times in a row to Tech?

If we were averaging at least another win per year (especially over UGA), were competitive in every game, and were doing at least as well as UGA, then things would be much more relaxed around the Flats.

The simple answer is, or should be, 'yes'. There is no fun in being a mediocre program, no matter who else is in that bed with you. Besides, with the recruiting advantages GA has, plus the coach they have, for them to suck would be a fluke, off-year sort of thing.

UGA does suck. They are toothless, smelly, leg-humping... meh, enough about their cheerleaders.

Who cares! It only matters what they do on Nov 26.

Yoda, don\'t take this the wrong way...

But subjects like this drive me crazy.

Georgia's success or lack thereof has NO bearing at all on how I feel about Tech. Of course, I want to beat Georgia. But outside of that 1 game per year, I don't even think about them in reference to Tech.

We have our own conference. We have other rivalries. We have a tough schedule...all of this has nothing to do with Georgia. Honestly, the Clemson game is more important to me than Georgia because it's a conference game...and a geographical rival.

Georgia is our biggest rival. That's without a doubt. But we have too many fans that obsess about them.

First of all... heresy!/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugher.gif

Second of all, its a zero sum game, whats good for them is bad for us, and whats good for us is bad for them. Theres a limited amount of resources with respect to fans, players, etc, and every action has a swing on way or the other.

I'm sure I'm going to get some hate mail for this but we obsess because we have been traditionally inferior to them on the football field, we are the redheaded stepchild in the state, the Auburn, Ok St, Texas A&M of the state of Georgia, and we have to co-exist with Ugag fans which makes it all the more difficult. That's the same reason why pro rivalries are so impassionate, because your rivals live miles away and you have no chance of running into them at every corner, working with them, or marrying into their family. It's nothing more than a minority reaction to a majority that tries to force-feed you the view that their team is better, and unfortunately more often than not they have the results justify such argument.

And the real irony is that UF fans don't think of Ugag as their rivals since they've beaten them so much. I lived in Gainesville for a year and gator fans think ugag fans are absolutelly obsessed with them, I remember a friend of mine went up to Athens and took a picture of her in a UF t-shirt in front of the "Gator-hater" bar, hillarious.
