Every other word out of his mouth about VPI (going back a few years) is just gushing with adulation...

"Oh, Lane Stadium is so great. OH, their fans are great. Beamer is great. OH, here comes the VT points avalanche. They recruit so well. They can't be beat at home. They'll give SC a great matchup if they remain undefeated...blah blah blah."

He's a non-stop VPI PR machine.

He is also a GIT suckup. Kirk is very kind to us in broadcasts and says great things about GT.

I find it refreshing for an announcer to be focusing on positives and looking for things to be excited about in each game he covers.

Also considering he is from Up North, he deserves a lot of credit for the way he embraces Southern football and fans.

I certainly have no problem with Herbstreit.

Mike Tirico on the other hand is a joke. He is fast becoming as bad as Musburger when it comes to jumping on the horse of the favorite in every game he touches. In any sport for that matter. His continued adulation of Tiger Woods is disturbing.

Fine, but his endless...

Pro-VPI stuff stands out above anything I've heard him say about any other school. He doesn't say 1/10th good things about us as he says about VPI.

Re: Fine, but his endless...

I think he is trying to get into the poll voters minds in my opinion. Everyone thinks that at usc/vt would make for a much better matchup that texas. Ga, has a shot but they would get killed by 1,2 or 3. they may have talent over in urineville but nothing like the others have.

I like Kirk, he's the safe guy that isn't going to be too sensationalist about his analysis and brings the female viewers into the crowd. He does well in the good cop/bad cop routine. For being the passive guy he does show his OSU colors fro time to time, as in the OSU Texas game when Desmond Howard sang the Michigan fight song at the horseshoe.

I was at the GT/VPI game this year - and Lane Stadium is great. It was the loudest place I've ever been (which covers most of the ACC and several of the SEC stadiums.

Their fans are loud and into the game (they should be - it's a younger fan base that's relatively new to football + they're winning) but I don't about great. The fans I ran into in Blacksburg were some of the rudest that I've ever encountered. The ones tailgating near us were pretty cool but walking to the stadium, I can't count how many times someone said F* Georgia Tech - and most of them were chicks.

I did overhear him saying how VT would be out of the NC race, so he did not put VT over Texas and USC.

I definitely have no major problems with Herbstreit. He's actually a really nice guy in person. When I was waiting at the SWARM gate a few hours before the NCSt. game, I had the chance to exchange a word or two as he was entering the stadium. He's a nice guy, and he knows a good deal about football.
Also, I think it's hard to call anyone a VPI suck-up while they are a completely dominant force in football. They definitely have a legit shot at anyone in the country.

GO JACKETS!!!

"Dude, the players live down the hall......SWEET!!"

Count me too

as a VT suck-up.I love quality and you see it there.btw-IT was REALLY fun to root for S Cal.(vs ND).
This is marked contrast to a LOT of our games in which struggle has new meaning many times.
