Coffee is for Closers Paul!

CPJ could walk over to the local Ford dealership, ask who their top salesperson was, hire him/her, and they would do better than Sewak.

Problem ööööing solved.

i dont think sewak is a great coach, so i'm not terribly opposed to this idea.

I can tell you that the lead recruiter for each player would be the one to introduce the signee at signing day. Preston had 3, Speed had 4, McCollum had 4, Bohannon had 1, Roof had 1 (Davis), and Owens had 1 IIRC.

Owens has south Georgia. I know he recruits Savannah and coastal Georgia. I don't know the geographical breakdowns for the other coaches. McCollum, because of his connections, might have Cobb and Cherokee but I think Bohannon has some of that too.

PJ should have been fired at the end of last season. We pay him over $2M a year and he's digging a hole that will take years for the new coach to crawl out of.

And hire who? Who is going to come in that we can REALISTICALLY hire and do that much better of a job than CPJ over the first 4-5 seasons?

not saying i want to fire CPJ, but friedgen would do a öööö fine job.

CPJ almost definitely gets 2013 and 2014. IMO, he deserves 2015 also, because CTR was apparently hired for his recruiting, and he deserves two classes to prove what he can do.

With that being said, I don't think any of this will even be an issue, because a defense with a pulse will give us 9 wins this year and a trip to the ACCCG.

you haven't listen to saban talk lately have you. What about les miles?? The wonderful usc coach... What about the guy at nd? All great recruiting classes who have somewhat strict grump coaches.

I do not want a nice guy coach at tech. We do not win at all with them. I have enough of lewis and gomer to last a lifetime. We have the right guy.

Like i said before he is doing the right things in the eyes of the hill at tech. He is going no where for those that think he will be fired quickly.

If you want to look at what will happen to tech football if paul leaves all you have to do is look back at what happened after we decided to get rid of pepper. I was there some great times at bobby dodd like watching cvd run up the score on us with herschel.

We need to have patience here. Paul is doing the right thing redshirting guys every year. It will work.

We have depth. We needed some superstars and the truth is this class has 4 potential guys. If they signed with uga two would be 5 stars and the other 2 high 4 stars.

It is the top 7 that is preventing us from getting over the hump your game changers.

Our top 7 will be better this year than last year. We will be better.

+100

And his attempt to fix it has been to bring in CTR. He doesn't believe that anything needs to be fixed on the offensive recruiting front. Since CTR just started, maybe we give him a chance to succeed?

+1

I believe that CTR is the missing piece we have been looking for. He may end up being CPJ's best coaching hire ever.

A defense with a pulse would have given us 10+ wins this past year.

in all seriousness, i'm a little confused about your point. the criticism was that the recruiting sucked, not the coaching. if your point is that coaches who are salesmen don't necessarily do well, isn't it an apples to oranges comparison if they aren't considered good coaches as well?

My point was that we have a football coach who's recruiting guys to play for him and GT. He's got the personality he's got, so that's the personality kids have to deal with if they're going to play for him. Selling guys to sign with your team but who end-up not wanting to play for you after they sign because because they were sold rather than recruited is counter-productive, imo.

My other point is that BOR's whiny rant is based on his read of our recruiting class which hasn't hit the field yet.

sold rather than recruited? Maybe you need to explain that.

My whiney rant is based on two observations both of which can be taken at face value for what they are.
1.) We had 18 ships to give and we came up short by a whopping 4! That's not positive in anyway and with the small size of this class puts tremendous pressure to stock the cabinets next year.
2.) According to both services that are available to the public to rate recruits (Rivals and Scout), our team ranking is the WORST EVER according to both services since they have been ranking team's efforts from 2002 to this point.

Both of these are reason to be concerned. I like PJ. I want the guy to succeed. Recruiting hasn't been his forte in 5 years and he's still tripping over his own dick to get it right. Our failures over the past 3 seasons have been directly related to talent issues, NOT coaching.

A head coach has two responsibilities: recruiting and coaching. He has to do both decent and we aren't doing that. When you see the signs of another class failure, its not going to magically transform itself from a McDonald's cheeseburger to a Prime Rib.

regarding empty slots, i'm not sure that we would've done much better had we used more. 2-3 guys who are low 3* - high 2* doesn't get me terribly excited.

regarding rank, our star average is right where it has been. only about 10 teams above us took less than 20 guys, so of course we're not going to have a high ranking.

IF we could have gotten a few more 3*, we should have. The more you have, the better odds you have that they work out. Now we have twenty odd scholarships for next year and it will be even more difficult to fill. It's really poor management of scholarships. It is very likely we'll have 7-8 empty scholarships at the end of next year's recruiting. What do you think the bottom tier of next year's class is going to look like?

Heard a report on Sports Radio today that a poll of kids signing today. 91% chose their school based on the best chance to get to the NFL. 9% chose it for the academics.

That's a really interesting stat, and someone should ask Sports Radio where they got it. Depending on where you look, only 2 - 2.5% of all college football players make it to the NFL. That means 89% of all the kids who signed are deceived, or smoking something funny, or both. That's a lot of guys who'll be wishing they were in the 9%.

we'll see. it could cause problems for next year, but then again CPJ has said from the beginning they only planned on taking 15 this year, so maybe there are guys they're waiting on next year. I don't want to speculate too much... let's see what happens for next year's recruiting class before we get excited and / or distraught. :)
