Gailey doesn\'t think NCAA is fair

inre to the # of scholarships the NCAA cut GT to in the next 2 football seasons. In this piece from Mark Knobler in the Sun AJC, he quotes Coach Gailey fussing about the way the NCAA viewed our 82 total scholarships from this past season. I won't ruin the article for ya, butja kinda gotta agree with Coach G.
The real question is how this whole affair of throwing ourselves on the NCAA's mercy, then hiring a lawyer to try to help after the NCAA wanted a little more clarity of the presentation mess GT gave them the 1st time around &amp;, now, how the appeal <u>is being handled?</u> Does anybody know how GT got in such a mess
from incidents that are usually handled with a wrist slap &amp; some internal housecleaning?

Did we deserve to be punished? Yes we did. Did we deserve the harsh punishment the NCAA meeted out? I agree with Coach Gailey on this one. I don't see how what GT did merited such a harsh punishment CONSIDERING that similar infractions by other schools weren't punished so harshly and schools that are habitual offenders are treated with such kid gloves.

I think this guy Knob-ler is an absolute dick for doing this.
He only cites Chan's good deeds as a lead in to his muck-up story on Tech, and our problems.
The one story that I want, by the way, is how Tech is trying to fit in to the ncaa guidelines. Of course those guidelines are built around so called "universities" that create nursery school programs for their near illiterate revenue generators. There is no way Tech will be spared on this. We need to follow the same rules as uga, or get out.

I do understand why Tech is punished though: If the ncaa acknowledges Tech's situation, they will be calling BS on themselves for what the factories get away with.

This is a no-win deal.
By the way, Mike knob- ler has made a half ass apology over on the hive. All after the fact, of course.

In case u're interested in the thinking behind Mike Knobler's article, here's his apology on the Hive. It sure makes sense to me why he wrote what he did. I didn't know why the NCAA was so harsh on GT &amp; this item helped me see the NCAA's thinking a little bit.
How did GT get in such a mess over this??? Apparently, we just keep making it worse!!! After the appeal, we may lose 8 'ships for the next 3 yrs!!!

I still don't get the hostility. I don't think Knobler's article is negative...in fact I think it shows that Tech was trying to do the right thing for some kids and the NCAA strikes again.

That entire episode is a microcosm of Braine's incompetence. Gailey has made some problems for himself- no doubt about it. BUT, he has had to pay more for everyone else's screwups than any man should have to.

This set of infractions has been mishandled from the very get-go. GT doesn't know how to apply course substitution rules. We let a disgruntled x-employee threaten to/actually notify the NCAA. Where was the buyout non-discloser? We worked with the NCAA, without legal help, to throw ourselves on their mercy. We notified the NCAA in a way that they got confused over. We then hire legal help. We play with the scholarships after self imposing restrictions/santions, because the GT Athletic Dept staff has no clue as to what the NCAA is watching. etc, etc, etc.
It's just one bumbling mess after another. All the while Tech continues to get in worse &amp; worse shape with the NCAA powers. Nothing adds up about GT's case.

There is one bright side to this mess. At least we don't have the track record in infractions that would give us the skills to know how to properly negotiate the best outcome.

You've said it ALL!! All our fb failings being and end with a flawed AD!! I cannot wait til he gets the heck out!!
