As fans, there's little we can take away from this game beyond being glad we took care of biz.

I'm certain there's much that the coaches will ID that needs work and that's about all you can take from this kind of game.
While overall the D played well, there were indications that they are still susceptible to the quick slant and tackling by the secondary showed some problems. The offense was lights out and execution was excellent when Vad was in the game. Thomas showed both flashes of greatness and a need for more seasoning. Byerly was in during such junk time that you can't draw any inference from it.

End result is that we took care of business in a big way and found a few things to work on. That's the best we could expect because if we didn't find things to work on then the game was a giant waste of time, we would have been better off with an internal scrimmage.

There were also some pretty big rushing lanes up the middle. Less than usual, but not sure how that will translate to real offenses.

I think those were created when we adjusted to the slant and put linebackers in those passing lanes. We have to find a way to stop the slant without committing two of the three LB's. It was obvious that Elon used the same game plan as VT, MTSU, and BYU from last year. The talent gap kept it from being more effective.

We did make a few open field tackles that would not have been made last year. Also, when our O is chewing up the clock with the option, the D will be even better because of more rest and less drives, etc.

Memory could be wrong but I feel like most of their longer rushes were in the 2nd half, mostly on misdirection plays?

Somebody post the Big Cry. What a bunch of whiners.
That's not only 100% irrevocably true but actually kind of a little sad .... this was a huge shutout win that we should all enjoy, it's a great start to the season and we might want to savor the moment instead of playing the "I'm more perceptive than you" game ....... Kudos !
