Uniform color

agree with everything Rome. Hey did you guys ever play Ellijay? Dad played from 47 to 51 and he mentions Rome, Cedartown and Cartersville alot.

Something about you guys being some mean ones. He never cusses but I knew what he wanted to say.

Dad played on the first team that played C'ville and lost like 50 - 0 and then a fight broke out. My brother and I played on the only team that beat them 7-6 when Lavette was a senior, we put him out in the second quarter. Gilmer was 1-29 against them up until 79.

I agree. Homecoming every year we should break out something different. Gold helmets, blue jerseys, and white pants would be what I prefer, b/c I get a mental picture of Shawn Jones running down the field in that uniform against Nebraska in the Citrus Bowl.

I always thought it'd be a cool tradition to let the players (read: juniors/seniors) pick any ncaa legal uniform from the past to wear at homecoming. Could use it to honor teams from the past (like national champion years jerseys on their big anniversaries) or just to honor a specific member of past teams, or even just the jerseys for the time a great alumnus was in school.

Otherwise I really don't care, uniform don't mean much as long as they're not running around out there in burlap. But I do think the above would be a great tradition to start. I think the navy looks sharp, but whatever the coach wants is cool with me.

JD,
Your daddy was a little ahead of me. I started to HS in '57-58. I played with the 'B team one year and one year varsity when the schools split to West Rome and East Rome. I then had an opportunity to leave Rome for a private school. Before that, we did attend all games.
Gotta tell you a funny one here. Coach Nick Hyder, in his first year of coaching, was prepping us for a game with Gilmer Co. once and at practice he would pump us gooooood. He told us that those Gilmer Co. players weren't like anybody else we had ever played. Said they were all real tall, real skinny, would only have one eye that pointed straight ahead, but not to be fooled because they could throw a 100 lb. bag of sugar over their shoulder and run straight up the side of a mountain thru the woods in nothing flat. Said they weren't the most he-man looking bunch we would play, but they would definitely be the meanest. HEHE, he had us scared half to death of even getting off the bus up there. Come to find out, they looked pretty much the same as we did.
I wonder if coaches still use those scare tactics to get guys ready like they used to do?

BLUE and GOLD ROCK

I LOVE the Navy Blue Jerseys!!!

The problem with the Gold is the colors are not consistant.
We have several shades of Gold along with Yellow and Cheddar.
It's amazing to me Notre Dame seems to display a constant in their gold and we are all over the place.

Yes, I know the "Official School Colors" are "White and Gold"......but it's really time we come to terms with the fact that there insn't enought contrast in White and Gold, and replace white with blue, and make white the accent color.

Stay away from Black......I hate the idea of being compaired to Wake Forrest.

This is what we should have....

HOME GAMES
Gold Helmets - Gold Pants - Blue Jerseys

AWAY GAMES
Gold Helmets - Gold Pants - White Jerseys

VARIATIONS FOR SPECIAL OCCATIONS
Gold Helmets - White Pants - White Jerseys
White Helmets - Gold Pants - White Jerseys

And put the "GT" back in the middle of the field instead of this dual small "GT" on the 35 yard line.

YES PLEASE!!!!!!!

Actually, IMHO the white helmets with gold GT emblem, white jerseys and gold pants (ala Kim King) were very distinctive and a lot less me tooish than blue/mustard yellow pretending to be gold. Ever hear "How bout dem white britches!", nope.

The helmets are really impressive. If the helmets/jerseys/pants were designed with current materials,logos/striping etc., they would likely appeal to more than just an OF like me. Listen up Rad!

Another vote for the Navy jerseys. Classy, demonstrative, to the point. They just look good.

I vote now for Navy as our home unis!

I actually like using gold and white with a minimal use of blue as an accent color. The struggle seems to be to get the gold right on a jersey. All of us who love the gold pants/white jersey look like the shade of gold on the pants. But, we don't come close to that look when we design a gold jersey. Textile engineers, go to work. Get us a gold jersey with white numbers trimmed with navy with white pants striped with the same gold and navy. Make sure that the gold jersey is a great match to what we usually see on the pants. We'll keep the gold pants and white jerseys for the road, and I think everybody will be happy. Every now and then we can come out in our "all gold" like Clemson or FSU using all orange or garnett for a big game. But, to do that the gold on the pants, jersey, and helmet have to be a good match.
I dated a Dawg back when I was in school who made me mad when she said our true color was "pea green". Unfortunately, too many of our efforts with gold fabric indeed have had a Leseur look to them.

That's a very good idea 77! We have a ton of options out there, I just kinda wish that we would see them rotated a little more often. Although, I did read an article that said that our AA had a gigantic deficit. If this is true maybe we don't have a gigantic uniform budget. But, doesn't Russell provide them for free?

NO BLUE JERSEYS!

and YES, I remember 1990. I was in school at Tech then and loved that season.

I like blue as a slight accent, but not as a main color.

Make it simple - white jerseys/old gold pants at home, white on white away. That eliminates the complaints some have with the gold jerseys.

Hey RM - you keep in touch with John Ivemeyer?? I heard when Gilmer and Rabun squared off in roundball, the whole gym shook when you guys battled for rebounds. How skin tight were THOSE unis on you 2 behemoths, HA HA.

I haven't seen John in a while but hear he and his family are doing fine. Yes, the gym did shake as John and I had many good battles.

Actually, GTH, I like this idea ...simple, but effective.

Re: NO BLUE JERSEYS!

Guys....you can't have white jerseys at home....

According to the NCAA, the visiting team wears the white jerseys.....we can only wear white at home if we work it out with the visiting team first.

I'll vote for Blue Jerseys forever. Have you seen the spring practice blue jerseys? They Rock!!!

This is true, and we indeed did so for many years...only a couple of teams wouldn't allow us to wear white at home, I think Wake was one of them, can't recall another.

I don't think it was a big deal.

Actually there was a time when both GT and LSU had permission from the NCAA to have white jerseys serve as their respective official home uniforms.

Without hearing anything to the contrary, I thought this was still the case, with GT having just chosen the gold at home over the past few years.

Does anyone know if this 'exception' for both LSU and GT has changed?

I haven't seen any indication that a home team can't wear white if they want to but the rule is that in this case the away team has the choice, not the home team as in the NFL. The details had to be worked out prior to the season, IIRC. Only one team regularly elected to not let us wear white and that was Wake Forest. But it wasn't actually Wake not letting us wear white. It was that Coach Caldwell believed in structure and doing things just so and for away games his team wears white and there are no exceptions. He wasn't doing it to be a jerk, he was doing it because it was his philosophy that you do things a certain way every time.

I know there were one or two others that didn't agree to let us wear white but I can't recall who they were.
