Just thought I would bring this kid to everyone's attention. First he's a great kid, smart, & very athletic.
quick overview of his numbers:
5'10 193lbs 40: 4.55 30" Verticle
1,198 yds on 140 carrys (8.6 yds per carry)
24 TDS last year
Bench:295 Squats:500+
GPA:3.5 ACT:25

I know we have several strong potentials @ RB but wonder if we're after him. I watched him play last 2 yrs in MS....impressive....ANY THOUGHTS out there? He's a friend of mine...so no matter where he goes I wish him well.
Good LUCK Nathan....Surely he would get past the HILL

Ramblin: Personally....from the film it's really hard to tell how good of a back he is because the opposition wasn't too great.

I am impressed with what scout.com has to say about him. Being listed as a top 5 back in Mississippi says he has alot of talent.

By the way, how big is he at the present? I think they listed his size as a sophmore.

I think if Tech is aware of him they would be talking to him about coming to Tech as an invited walk on, what with scholarships being so few in supply.

I am not sure what his exact numbers are...I will have to try to contact Nathan to find out...However, it may be safe to assume that if those were his numbers last year then, he's probably 10-15 lbs heavier & stronger in almost every category....There have been some BIG OL that have come out of JA over the past 2 yrs.... Both of them are at Ole Miss...David Traxler 6'6 292lbs SO , Reid Neely 6'6 295 lbs. FR, & another RB @ Ball State Corey McGee 5'11 191 lbs.
So I know that there has been some talent but not what they may face in the larger public schools, however I believe that these 3 and Nathan especially could be productive at various schools in numerous states...I will try to get in touch w/ Nathan & find out his exact numbers & see who is recruiting him the HARDEST....

Hey guys,

It's been a while but I wanted to post something quick here. This fella goes to JA here in town (a private school) so he needs really stellar numbers if he's going to have a D1 impact. Like it is for most schools in GA, the private school leagues just aren't at the same level as the public schools for producing D1 talent.

Don't doubt his smarts one bit - JA's a tough school with a fine academic record, I just wonder how he'll do against competition at the next level.

Georgia doesn't have private school leagues. And I hope they never do.

Tennessee does, and ever since they split up their football into private and public leagues the private schools don't have as much talent. Thats why I made the comment on Jew, I wanted to see his play against better competition. No offense to him whatsover. That scout.com has him listed as a top 5 runningback in Mississippi says a hechuva lot and I would love to see him in White & Gold one day.

actually Georgia does

its called the GISA. The largest private schools in this league are in Macon, Albany, Monroe and Gainesville. In general the schools are very small by public school standards and are not at the same level of competition but I am sure that many would be competitive in class A GHSA.

Tech actually has had several former and current GISA players on the roster. Can you name them?

Re: actually Georgia does

Ah, I forgot about the GISA. My bad. I was thinking of Marist, Greater Atlanta Christian, Westminster, Darlington, Lovett...to name a few that compete in the GHSA.

I do find it doubtful that the GISA is near Class A competition.

I can't think of one GISA player on Tech's roster, not any on a athlectic scholarship. However I do think Georgia recruited a player out of the Macon area a couple of years ago that played in the GISA.

Re: actually Georgia does

We have had players from:

Tattnall Military (Durant Brooks-starting P)
Deerfield-Windsor Academy (Wayne Riles- TE)
Westfield (James Liipfert- walk-on LB)
Mount deSales (Eric Oetter- walk-on WR)

We have had players in the past from Stratford and Riverside Military.

Re: actually Georgia does

Robbie Rollins played at Robert Toombs, Matthew Ethredge played at Tattnall. Kyle Belcher was a teammate to Ryles at Deerfield Windsor.

Lekevin Smith from Stratford was just drafted in the NFL draft. He was a DL at Nebraska.

Bigger GISA schools could compete at GHSA level I believe. A good example is Eagles Landing Christian who were a mediocre team in GISA AA, but have done very well in many sports in GHSA class A after switching over two years ago.

Mt de Sales is a AAA school in GISA and won state championships in GHSA before switching over in the 70's.

Re: actually Georgia does

The points y'all have made are well taken.

Maybe one day the GHSA will allow interleague competition with the GISA. Then we'd know for sure how good the GISA is.

Re: actually Georgia does

Actually it's Tattnall Square Academy, not Tattnall Military. Brooks played JC football @ Georgia Military College in Milledgeville.

Re: actually Georgia does

I played at Tattnall in the late 90's with Matt and against Smith from Stratford. Most of the larger GISA schools have around 400 to 450 enrollments in their high school, so are a little small to compete with most GHSA schools. The better AAA GISA teams could probably compete well in GHSA A but would have a hard time beating the better teams such as Hawkinsville. I have seen some GHSA AA and a few AAA teams that i think could be easily beaten by GISA teams. IMO one reason you dont see more GISA athletes in D1 is because it is a smaller league and D1 coaches arent as willing to give these guys a chance for scholarships. At the same time alot of these guys have the grades to go to alot of the larger schools in the country as a normal student, and choose to go that route.

Re: NATHAN JEW update

UPDATE: ON NATHAN JEW
FYI
The numbers you have on Nathan are pretty much current. When he attended the Senior Only Camp at Alabama last week, he weighed in at 192lbs. What stood out at the Alabama camp for Nathan was that he had the fastest 40 time out of all the RBs, 4.45. His time was the second fastest at the camp. Nathan also broke the camp record for RBs in the bench reps. He "repped" 185lbs 24 times, 2 more than the previous record for RBs. Nathan was a bit disappointed in his performance on the bench because he did 25 reps at the Nike Combine at Texas A&M this summer. Nathan did receive an invite from the GT Director of Player Personnel, Geoff Smith? to attend GT's football camp on July 8th. He hopes his schedule will permit.

If youre familiar with the SPARQ ratings, Nathan scored a 82.24 which was 22nd best in a field of 357 at the Nike Camp in Texas A&M.

Even though Nathan has put together some convincing numbers at the Nike Combine, Scout.com combine, Ole Miss FB Camp, and the Alabama Camp, his "stock" continues to be scrutinized because he is an "academy" football player. Nathan is determined to showcase his God given talent at the FB camps at Auburn, USM, Memphis, Arkansas, and GT if allowed.

I hope this helps out in bringing you GT fans up to date on Nathan Jew.

THANKS TO STEPH052 for this update

Re: NATHAN JEW update

Thanks: I pose another question for private school football players who play skill positions...How do they over come the fact that they play for private schools...I mean his numbers/performances at the camp should speak for themselves....At some point the numbers don't lie & the playing field for those ath at the camps are even/level...SO someone tell me how do you overcome it as a high school athlete competing at a private school.....ANY THOUGHTS?

Re: NATHAN JEW update

If I understand your question, it still depends on the competition.
I would think that the very well funded private schools like Westminster, Marist, GACS and St. Pius in the Atlanta area can travel to find better competition.
IMO,it would be the small rural public schools that would possibly face a bigger hurdle.

* I am assuming that the private schools do travel more *

Re: NATHAN JEW update

A lot of times kids in private school get a lot more experience at a skill position than they would if they were in a bigger program. You've got to play to get better. Playing against poorer competition is better than not playing at all.

I was a high school athlete in public school when forced integration occurred in fall of 1970. At first there were a lot of white guys playing sports and even two from the white school started on the basketball team. These kids could compete because they had learned to play. But within a few years there were no whites on the basketball team. This is because the white kids didn't get to play at the lower grade levels and never learned to play and quit trying. I remember seeing some good integrated teams that played half-court offenses get new coaches (black) who went straight to run and gun style of play that the white kids could not match up with as well and they quit.

No racial comments being made here at all, just an observation that a white athlete may get a better opportunity to develop in private schools where they get a chance to develop their games. Nathan appears to have the athleticism to hold his own and the playing experience to go with it. If he's a good student we should offer him.

Just out of curiosity, is he Jewish? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hugelaugh.gif

Re: NATHAN JEW update

I'm glad has got an invite to Tech's camp from Geoff Collins. That is as good a first step as any to getting a Tech scholarship offer. I hope it happens for him and Tech because he sure sounds like a winner.

Re: NATHAN JEW update

He has a 3.5 GPA & ACT:25
Yes so he's equally good in the classroom.

Re: NATHAN JEW update

FYI on RB Nathan Jew:

Nathan just got back from the University of Memphis FB Camp this past weekend. Again, Nathan turned in some impressive numbers at the camp. He turned in the best time in the shuttle (cone) drill with a 4.17. His shuttle time at the Scout.com Combine held at Ole Miss was a 4.50, so Nathan improved his time significantly. His forty time was about the same with a 4.51 (handheld time and running indoors on artificial turf in "sneakers") and a 31" veritical.

After the USM football camp, Nathan has enrolled in 2 other camps, Arkansas and Auburn. He has received an invitation from GT, Geoff Collins, to attend FB camp as well. But before his summer is up, Nathan also plans on visiting Vanderbilit and Mississippi State.
