Everyone seems to be wrapping guys up, which is great to see after last year. We made some nice tackles one-on-one in space tonight.

I'm pretty sure LY was on the field for EVERY defensive play, and as some said, they didn't even think of going his way until late in the game. They threw under him in zone coverage on the last drive once, then again on a curl route or something where he fell down trying to dive at the guy after the catch.

It is a chicken and egg sort of thing to me. Do the DBs give the DL time to make plays, or do the DL put pressure that make the DBs look good? Some of both typically.

Sneezy was totally freakin' awesome, and Jemea was everywhere he needed to be, and is really good on the blitz.

If you aren't psyched about the D right now you aren't paying attention. Won't that game tonight straight up.

Tackling looked great to me too. Even when the first guy didn't get a player down he was able to hold on long enough for the rest to swarm.

All you LY thread starters from last week, I double dog dare you to man up and apologize this week.
Don't know if we were watching the same game. LY got picked on a lot and made quite a few mistakes. But whatever. Clemson and Georgia will eat our lunch though if we play like we have at DB.

He was usually in good position, and played tighter coverage. I didn't notice all his plays, but I saw quite a few where he played well.

LY played very well. I really wanted the ref to throw the OPI flag near the end of the game on that go route down the left sideline when he had perfect coverage. Just to punctuate his good night.

Anyone else notice our defense tends to leave the cross routes and screens open in the middle a lot?

The area 10-20 yds from the LOS in between the hashes was wide freaking open all night. Didn't matter if it was a crossing route, seam route or a guy just standing there waiting for the ball.

We are talking about the Pitt game, not the UVA game.

I watched LY on probably 3/4 of the defensive plays. Since I was there, I could do that. And he did not "get picked on" a lot. In fact, they rarely went his way.

He played a mix of zone and some tight man coverage. I summarized earlier in this thread that they threw under him a couple of times, but that's a coverage issue for us not any fault of his. He was in the spot he was supposed to be in.

If you have some time, why don't you compile a set of plays where he was "picked on". I'd love to see it.

This. We are currently 15th in points against. Let that sink in a bit. Remember at the start of the season we were hoping to just break into the top 30? We are 15th!

Last night was a complete game by our Defense. They played fast and mean and, excepting a few plays, completely dominated their opponent. We get two weeks to heal up and focus on beating Clumpson. The defense is clearly focused on playing tough and the break could really help the offense work out some of these issues we've been talking about. We have a chance to really do something special these last three games. Georgie still has to play Auburn and KY with no bye week before they play us. I'm feeling pretty good about our chances. Drink ALL the kool-aid!

You compile a video of all our defensive plays and I'll be happy to go through and find you all of the missed coverages.

Lou did have excellent coverage on a couple plays of their last drive. I gave him a pat on the helmet for his effort.

I don't mind criticizing players when they perform poorly as long as we give them credit when they play well.

Good DL play will almost always equal good play from your secondary when the QB has to rush passes and throw off balance. Lou shut his guy down and Jemea did Jemea things. DJ White got beat a few times

I bet you fit in great at UVA law. Between your flawless physique, gear head knowledge of cars, football knowledge, and general superiority is there anything you can't do or don't know?

Why you're so butthurt?

Go for it, jackwagon. I've rewatched the first quarter and he has yet to be targeted. I'll keep you updated as I go. My memory was 3 "bad" plays and 2 pass breakups.
Hard to really see much with those camera angles, to be honest. Just watching the first drive, they focus on the LoS so much that you can't see the receivers at all. Looks like the very first 3rd down play LY got beat by his man (you can see Savage start to throw to Street on 3rd down as he is being sacked), but there's no way of telling because the camera angle is bad.

And are you counting blown coverage where QB pressure bailed LY out? Obviously if a play ends with a 6 yard sack, it's a big positive for our defense, but that doesn't mean the coverage was perfect (especially when they completely turn one or two rushers loose and the QB has zero time to throw).

The defense is fine. What happened to the offense that we saw in 2009 against Clemson, UGA, and FSU? It's gone backwards.

Will GT ever be able to put both sides of the ball together for a season?

Well considering we have only played a few defenses as bad as Clemson and FSU in 2009 and we only scored 24 against Clemson and UGA in the regular season, we'll find out I guess when we play them.
