Vad Lee

There was a second down and ~12 play where he picked up 10 and then stepped out of bounds rather than fight for the extra 2.

As a fan I want to see our guy make a point by running over a guy and delivering a blow, but that's just me, I'm not the one that feels like garbage the next day(not true...I'm hungover as hell!).

If you don't think Vad had a good game last night then you don't know jack öööö about football.

This.

Vad looked great yesterday. He made some great passes and continued bringing the passing game to a new level under CPJ. I think our 495 yards of offense yesterday shows that our offense can, in fact, hang with the big boys, especially when we throw the ball with some success.

As previously discussed, we lost because we couldn't hang onto a 20-point lead. We simply don't have the talent or depth on that side of the ball to keep up for four quarters. We can discuss where the blame may lie for this, but I don't think you can blame the offense at all for yesterday.

I would agree with that if he already had the first down (which, by the way he ran out of bounds, I just assumed he did...I was floored to learn we were short.)

If a quarterback isn't willing to fight for two extra yards to get a first down in a rivalry game, then he probably isn't the best fit for an option offense.

Overall he had a good game last night and I think that he is a very talented quarterback (probably the most talented CPJ has had), but he simply hasn't done as well as Nesbitt or Tevin. Hopefully that's just due to his inexperience rather than him not being a good fit for the offense, but my gut is telling me it's the latter.

All of these "he showed flashes" and "his passing was excellent in the 1st half" comments are exactly what we used to say about Reggie. I loved the passing authority Vad demonstrated in leading us to 20-0. Like my golf game, there's always that one fantastic shot over 18 holes that brings me back. We were always hopeful for Reggie, but, over the course of any season, he always found creative ways to wrench our hearts. Then came the throw out of bounds on 4th down against the mutts. Well, it's just a game, dog...

Unfortunately, I'm getting the the same feeling with Vad. He's got the skills, but does he have the talent for this offense? I am becoming doubtful.

Vad did some good things yesterday - a couple of really nice throws to Smelter, the fine long ball, and a nice one to Godhigh. He had some bad throws, a couple with the terrible habit he has of throwing completely off the back foot rather than stepping into the throw under pressure, and completed less than half of his passes. He got some hard yards running. But, he made few great reads and plays on the option. I liked the confidence he showed in the first drive of the 4th quarter, but the rest of the time he played really tight and tentative in the 2nd half. I'd give him a C+. Under his leadership this year we were 119th in passing offense and the running game declined. He needs to make big strides next year for us to improve.

From the stands it seemed like he focused on his first target and ignored everything else on designed pass plays. It worked out more often than not but I think we left some points on the table a couple of times.

That said, I won't be rewatching the tape to confirm my theory. Vad's not the reason we lost, anyway. We're simply not equipped to compete with UGA in football.

I wish we would do this more. 3 step or 5 step drop, look at receiver one, then receiver two. If both are covered, throw it away or tuck and run.

I think Vad played good last night. His best game imo.

I heard a completely unsubstantiated internet rumor that he was strongly leaning towards transferring after the year. Anyone else heard this?

Yes

Yesterday was the first day I thought I saw Vad stay in the pocket and even on one play, he stepped UP in the pocket. He also made a couple of good checkdown passes. CPJ said several times this season that we needed to do this better because Vad has just been throwing it up there and hoping it would be caught.

Then ugag decided to up the pressure on him and he started making bad decisions.

Like I said with Tevin the last couple of years, it's not all on the QB but Vad definitely has some more growing up to do.

You are an idiot. No other QB in the Johnson era make those throws Vad hit in the first half. This loss falls 150% on the defense not being able to hold a 20 point lead period.

I'm pretty sure Vad has the lowest completion percentage in the PJ era, the worst passer efficiency of the PJ era, and the fewest rushing yards of the PJ era. I know for a fact his YPC is the worst. He's the only PJ era QB with substantial negative rushing yards.

The numbers and results speak for themselves. Tevin would have beaten VT, and might have fared better against Clemson. UGA would probably be a toss up. But a change in the VT outcome would have sent GT to the ACCCG this year.

Vad's big win was Duke! I remember Reggie Ball made some mistakes but at least he beat some good teams - Auburn 2x, Miami & Clemson off the top of my head. I guess Vad has two more years...

Reggie didn't have to run the triple option and had Megatron to throw to, and you know what? Reggie Ball still sucked worse than Vad.
Vad isn't necessarily the one to blame. The O-line and blocking sucked in the second half, which has been the case most of this year. They are not physical enough

Tevin was 41% his RS SO year, same year that Nesbitt got hurt. Not a 1-1 comparison since Tevin only played 4.5 games but nothing else we can compare it with.

Reason for hope is that after that, Tevin was 49.3% during his RS JR year then 56.4% his RS SR year. Of course, these numbers don't take into account SOS and all that jazz.

Ugag has many any bad QB look good this year. Be careful what you wish for.

Vad is basically an average QB in this system. This system can't afford to have an average QB unless our def dominates which is very rare.

Really? In the two Auburn games, our D gave up 3 points and 14. In the Miami game, our D gave up 10 points.

Keep in mind that UGA completely sold out to stop us on the outside. Many times they had a LB I think step up to the gap on the playside when the A back went into motion. They basically gave up any possibility of a pass rush.

As a result, the middle was very soft until they made some adjustments in the second half.

So yeah, Vad had virtually no pressure on him while in the pocket. And with our OL, that's really saying something.

Did the OP watch the same game that I did? smh ...

A lot of this.

I truly believe CPJ looked at what our offense (and Vad in particular) did against Clemson and is warming to the idea of throwing the ball more. We threw the ball a lot yesterday and with a high degree of success. It would surprise me none if we reach a new level under CPJ's offense with Vad throwing the ball more often.

That's what encouraged me. We threw a good bit, and it wasn't always in desperation situations, and it wasn't always deep balls. Even with all of our issues, we would be really, really tough to beat if we could consistently make teams pay through the air.

Outside of Smelter our WRs are öööö. We've got at least 3 guys available next year (Autry, Messick, Jeune) that can hopefully improve that.

So you're going to the internet to verify an unsubstantiated internet rumor?

wow

I agree with being intentional about passing more. It is necessary to elevate ourselves into the upper tier of our conference. When we won the ACC, we passed more than we do now. BayBay was a large reason, but still it's something than we must do effectively to keep defenses honest.
