Triple Option

If you gave Tre Mason and Nick Marshall to Paul Johnson, I doubt he'd be able to hide his erection. But we all know that Nick Marshall wouldn't and shouldn't ever come to our fine Institution.

Way to be retarded about it. The fact of the matter is that Auburn's TO really doesn't outperform us by that much, despite their superior athletes. People just don't know how to prep for them (much like teams against us in '08/'09). Those stats against a common opponent are great, they show just how well our offense can perform in comparison to Auburn's (pretty öööö well - actually better in both halves when you take out the miracle tipped pass).

Saying "retarded" in this case may be too much on point to be acceptable. He apparently doesn't realize that wins and losses involve defenses and special teams as well as offenses. He clearly represents a special brand of football fan who doesn't actually understand how the game is played. While they normally express their fanhood with repeated "woof," some are known to feign appreciation for the Jackets as well. They often make this simpleton mistake: It's sad, but what can you do?

Funny, as I was watching the Auburn game I kept thinking why can't WE be this successful? I'd prefer a more modern version of the option. It's just my preference however. If anything else its a change from the same stuff that HASN'T been working. (at least not by my standards)

Ours would be that successful, or more, if we swapped rosters. The issue is the recruiting, not the offense.

part of the recruiting is the two different schools and the circumstances of each school.

however, another large part is the fact that Malzahn can show kids film of his offense doing NFL stuff, namely, the OL are not constantly belly flopping on the ground in front of defenders.

Nick Marshall isn't flopping. He is, however, a Dawg castoff who did a stint in JuCo before Malzahn scooped him up and hid him in one of Auburn's joke majors. Which of those things do you think Paul Johnson can get away with?

Re-read the first line of his post, Allen.

You know I'd buy all the talent level excuses if we were never in games. But we have been in games with the ability to win against top teams numerous times. We just drop the ball. Don't tell me that UGA game was a matter of recruiting. Call it execution, coaching, or whatever... But we can beat teams like UGA, VT, Miami, and Clemson. Even with our current talent level.

On occasion, as in the "on any given Saturday" scenario, yes we can. But not consistently, and certainly not 12 out of 13 times.

We're better than 1/13 with UGA and I'm too lazy to look at the other records but we're better than whatever those are as well.

Clemson is probably the only one that truly reflects your "Any given Saturday" theory

yet, we have beaten no superior opponents.

EVER NEVER?

Get off it. It's a good offense, I'll grant you that. But you can't seriously believe that if Auburn's entire offensive squad quit tomorrow and was replaced by GT's offensive squad that they'd still score 60 on Missouri. They wouldn't. Maybe 35, tops, and that's with Gus calling the plays. The same Gus that isn't going to come to Georgia Tech.

So what are you comparing again?

2013/11/30 Georgia 41 - Georgia Tech 34 OT
2012/11/24 Georgia 42 - Georgia Tech 10
2011/11/26 Georgia 31 - Georgia Tech 17
2010/11/27 Georgia 42 - Georgia Tech 34
2009/11/28 Georgia 30 - Georgia Tech 24
2008/11/29 Georgia 42 - Georgia Tech 45
2007/11/24 Georgia 31 - Georgia Tech 17
2006/11/25 Georgia 15 - Georgia Tech 12
2005/11/26 Georgia 14 - Georgia Tech 7
2004/11/27 Georgia 19 - Georgia Tech 13
2003/11/29 Georgia 34 - Georgia Tech 17
2002/11/30 Georgia 51 - Georgia Tech 7
2001/11/23 Georgia 31 - Georgia Tech 17

I'm not sure GT has ever scored more than 17 points against UGA without featuring an option based running game. Certainly hasn't happened in my lifetime that I'm aware of, and I'm pushing 40.

1-15 in the last 16 against the big 4.

How many times has PJ beaten the better team? UGA once, Miami once, VT once, Clemson 4 times.

You are the one that said you'd want GT's offense to beat superior teams. Just this year Auburn beat Alabama, UGA, Missouri, and Texas A&M. All of those have equal or better talent than Auburn right now, IMO.

You weren't talking about the players anyways, you were talking about the systems. Thus, your comment about beating superior teams.

We won 27-15 in 2000. Was George Godsey running an option based offense?

Love how y'all like to rearrange who the Big 4 are depending on who's won what recently.

Tell you what. You go try and hire Gus away from Auburn. Good luck with that.

That game:

See, unlike you young nitwits, I was a fan back then, and I paid attention to what we did offensively. Freidgen's offense was completely predicated around setting up the pass with the threat of the option run.
