I Know Bobinski or His Folks Read This...

Bobinsky is building his bunker slowly and secretively. Would love to see him at least publicly make an effort to say something to sell GT, but I highly doubt it. Make me a believer Bobinsky. Show me we have a leader as AD.

We will never hear from him. He is a conformist yes man like braine was. Maybe worse. Tech basketball will soon be as problematic as football. due to the school. Just watch.

Folks we are headed for bad times

Bobinski has nothing to do with that commercial. The commercial is a paid advertisement by the school, not the AA. Your bitching would more properly be directed to Peterson.

I have heard MBob is not a fan of it which gives me hope.

Commercial is awful. Markets GT as a bunch of nerds just like it's perceived, that's what we have to get away from. Try to grow a better image but that won't happen with coach Pawl.

How have you guys even seen this commercial? I don't think they've ever played it on the jumbotron at any of our games.

The worst thread of 2013... There is a price to pay...... Dont fear the reaper.... PG... one of these days

I've don't think so. I heard from a good source that DRad had really limited any spending (for example using in house attorneys versus NCAA compliance attorneys to save $ got us in trouble) whereas Bob gave $600k for PJ to do what he needed. That's when when the hiring of additional recruiting coordinators occurred. Also heard he is no fan of Sewak.

no way man. Bob did the right thing with recruiters but that is incremental and just puts us even with other schools. And in his control/budget, not even needs to be signed off by the president.

What I am refering to is Bob's ability and balls to tell peterson we need to relax admissions, allow more exceptions, then hold him and the coach accountable for results. But don't handcuff them. let them do their jobs then hold them accountable.

I am refering to Bob's ability to tell the president and the board it's split of professors vs others is ridiculous and there needs to be more balance.

etc etc etc....

Maybe but also heard a bit more flexibility has been given to PJ for special admits. I spoke to Peterson last year and he told me the Calculus was the biggest factor that hampered our football recruiting (the implication I guess is that the Board of Regents won't allow GT any majors without the calculus requirement to hamstring recruiting).

He's only been here for like 6 months. Pop a Xanax and relax, man.

I'm pretty sure the only people who have a problem with that commercial never went to Tech.

Newsflash. GT has nerds. So what. It's 2014, nerds are cool now.

I do and I graduated in '08.

It's not an inherently bad commercial. It has just been played to death and driven into the ground. A guy in an Iron Man suit jumped over a shark.

You lose a lot of credibility with me for this. I know a lot of Tech grads including myself who think its terrible. More importantly it misses the mark completely at marketing the school effectively to the audience during a football game. I could come up with a thousand ideas better than the tricycle and Iron Man suit speeches.

This a thousand times over. It takes a massive amount of insecurity to get embarrassed by some nerdy kid giving an over-the-top speech.

At a Christmas party, some dumbass uga sorority girl (not a hot one either) randomly brought up in conversation that the commercial has "given them a lot of ammo" for nerd jokes. Whatever that means. I, however, had imbibed enough to take great offense and said something to the effect of we got more than our share of ammo from real life experiences with their dumbass fans and alumni. I think my wife drove me home shortly thereafter.

Have you met any of the patrons of this board? Insecurity runs strong through their veins.

I was a business major at Tech. Own a small commercial construction company now. You seriously just don't get it.
I have to believe this type of thinking comes from an engineering grad with no concept for marketing and sales but a background in being a desk jockey drawing pretty lines on paper.

You have a 30 second clip during a football game to sell your school to a National audience. More importantly, these ads are used to market to potential student athletes. So you do that by showing tricycle racing or your typical Tech nerd giving speeches about Iron Man suits?

Understand something please, It has nothing to with an insecurity or feeling embarrassed. When that video went viral, it was cool for a few days. As Techies, we can all appreciate the Iron Man Suit speech. When you use it to market your school to outsiders on national tv you are driving a wedge between you and your audience. That guy appeals to less than 5% of your öööö audience! It's ööööing stupid to use that as a marketing tool.

What would be better? How about a commercial utilizing Calvin Johnson's science project of building a waste water system for third world countries and capitalizing on his high powered image? You bring athletics and academics together and you are utilizing a guy who has become a household name and is possibly the most visible athlete next to Lebron James? You think that sells to the entire audience?

How about a commercial showing Bey Bey, Derrick Morgan, Calvin, Wheeler, etc etc highlighting their college careers mixed in with some accomplished students like the Iron Man suit guy and then panning to a shot of them sitting in a classroom with other students with the narrator saying "Greatness starts in the classroom"? That appeals to the entire audience and it sure as öööö looks great to potential recruits!

We have more big name stars in pro sports right now than ever before and were rolling out videos during sporting events that show a bunch of kids on tricycles and a dude giving an Iron Man speech that appeal to less than 5% of America!

Know your öööö audience! Some of you need a freaking clue! This is exactly the same mentality of the poor leadership we have that is wasting an opportunity.

I'm totally shocked to run into an m-train grad who is totally convinced that he is way smarter than all those engineering grads across campus.

I don't even totally disagree with you regarding the effectiveness of our marketing and branding. I think it's a weak spot, but blushing and blaming our recruiting failures on a commercial is just dumb and a waste of time and energy.

Auburn, Oregon, Kansas State, etc. are not seeing loads of recruiting success because of their commercials. They are successful because they have no standards, and their boosters can and do gladly pay future NFL, JUCO criminals to play for their teams.

A lot of the engineering grads and students completely lack common sense and/or social skills. In fact, many of them as so ass backwards in a social environment that they are utterly embarrassing. It's also the reason why we lose the battle at the political level. But they can do some awesome math tricks.
