JHD moving to DE?

Article says Nealy and Paul Davis (I...don't remember that name at all) are lining up in the 2 LB spots so far. I'd guess the WLB (I think that's what it was?) position is gone.

Paul Davis was the only true frosh to get significant snaps last season. Julian Burnett-ish style of play (and wears #40 to boot). 5'11" 220 with a nose for the ball.

Paul Davis = PJ Davis
 
Sounds like a good move. JHD seemed to struggle a bit at MLB last season - mentally, not physically. With his athleticism, DE might be his calling.
 
JHD in at DE in a nickel is quite a lot like a 3-3-5. Rumor has it that Roof has always liked 3-3-5 looks.
 
Is the 3WR set more indicative of the playing style of the teams we face or more of the perceived weakness of our defense?
 
It's more on the weakness of our defense. We haven't had much talent lately. Its less on the scheme we play but rather on how the DC utilizes the players' strengths in the particular scheme he runs.

Teams we play. "Pro-style" Offenses are becoming archaic in CFB. You need to be able match-up with the offenses. Why stay in a base 4-3 when the offensive personnel may only dictate that you be in 20% of the game? Moving JHD to DE kills 2 birds with 1 stone. Not only do I get to keep one of my better players on the field, but I also get better in the back 7 by decreasing/ eliminating an offensive mismatch

This move is purely an indictment on the DL talent.
 
yeah moving Attaochu to Defensive line was a similar move and indictment of our DL talent. It can't possibly be that these LB's were recruited for a different job than what they're being asked to do now.
 
Looks more like they think they have a logjam of DBs they want to get on the field. We have 14 on the current roster and another four on the way this summer.
