VT Noon Kickoff

CPJ likes early games, and we seem to do fairly well in noon games on the road. I don't mind it so much. Start winning more meaningful games and we'll get the 3:30 and night time slots.

Win this game (which I'm not that optimistic about) and Tech will get the 3:30 and night time slots. A 4-0 Tech with a win over a ranked opponent would be hard to ignore.

This is what happens when you play bullshit teams like Georgia Southern to open the season.

Half of the Hokie fans still recovering from their Friday night hangover and the other half still out hunting doves. I like it.

Screw you ACC/ESPN, UNC and UVA get the later kickoffs:

North Carolina at East Carolina, ESPN or ESPNU*, 3:30 p.m.

Virginia at BYU, ESPN or ESPNU*, 3:30 p.m.

Correction: Ranked UNC and Ranked BYU got the later kickoff. UVA was inconsequential to the decision.

BYU has to spend the morning walking around asking people if they'd like to hear the gospel of two chicks at the same time, hence the later kickoff.

The GT-VT game has NEVER been a Noon game.

We all know that for EVERY year but 2013, GT or VT has been the Coastal champ and this game has been of real impact in the race for the ACC CG.

FWIW...IMO, I think the ACC HQ has already decided that this game is a "done deal" with VT the winner. Why else would then ACC HQ put this marquee game on at Noon, something they've never done...in 9 years?

ACC HQ gonna have total a sh** fit when GT goes
into Blacksburg and steamrolls VT.

2008 was noon, wasn't it?

I remember being pissed off that early in that day.

Who schedules the game times? I thought that was the broadcasting network, not the conference. We and Iowa/Pitt lost out to BYU/UVA, UNC/ECU (3:30 slots), MISSST/LSU, and NIU/Arkansas (7:00 slots), if that's the case. Not something the ACC office could really have decided.

This noon slot is a good opportunity for us, IMO. ABC and CBS didn't even bother to pick up a game at noon. We're going to be in the only game worth watching, with VT still being ranked, so we're going to be on a national stage.

2008 was noon, wasn't it?

I remember being passed off that early in that day.

I checked ESPN 2005-2013.

GT vs VT has NEVER been a Noon game.

ACC HQ gonna look like sh** (again) cause everyone will ask why was this marquee upset by GT...was not on at 3:30 or night.

But, when GT wins, it'll be THE conversation...ALL DAY & NIGHT...on ESPN and elsewhere.

Yes, of course. It has to be a complete coincidence that BOTH...UNC & UVA...get prime 3:30 slots...with both playing non-conference games...both on the road.

Yet, the KEY GT-VT DIVISION game...gets a Noon time slot !?!?
Something that's NEVER happened in 9 straight years.

And of course, it's pure coincidence that UNC has had a BYE week before playing GT for the past several years.

Yes yes. It must be a TOTALLY random coincidence and have ZERO to do with ANY biased influence from the ACC HQ !?

Yes yes. Tin foil for everyone !!

That would be correct. The ACC has little to no involvement.

...ESPN, under its contracts with conferences, has the right to set kickoff times and wait until 12 days before game day, or in some cases only six, to inform universities.

Every Monday morning during the season, ESPN’s football brain trust meets in a war room in Building 12 on the network’s sprawling campus in Bristol, Conn., to consider options for upcoming games and make sure the hottest teams get the choicest time slots on each of its channels.

I don't understand the fascination with the 3:30 slot, unless you don't want anyone to watch the game, that is.

That time slot is gonna get steam rolled by the CBS SEC game of the week anyways, so how is it better than a noon slot, with College Gameday leading right into it?

If slot means anything at all to the outcome of the game, this is the best slot for us to be in. It's CPJ's favorite slot, and the fans won't be in to the juice yet.
